BERKELEY — A former Diablo Valley College professor was in custody Wednesday evening after his arrest Wednesday afternoon in Oakland, according to county records.
Eric Clanton, 28, was being held on $200,000 bail after he was booked into Berkeley City Jail Wednesday evening. He was arrested on suspicion of use of a firearm during a felony with an enhancement clause and assault with a non-firearm deadly weapon.
No date was immediately listed for upcoming arraignment hearings.

Man, this guy will freak out big-time if he has to go and spend just six weeks in some county jail. He better ask the jail-house management for a ‘safe-space’.
He’ll need a doctorate first. There’s many a slip ‘txit the cup and the lip.
$200,000 bail is a whopping amount. He has at least 2 serious felony charges which are serious. Plea bargaining down is likely to get him 5 years probation, 60 days in county, plus $20,000 fine, and some re-education classes
I doubt that a Berkeley jury will convict him. Hope I’m wrong.
Sounds enough to make him regret it briefly!

Here is the applicable CA Penal Code Section:

PC 245(a)(1) reads: “Any person who commits an assault upon the person of another with a deadly weapon or instrument other than a firearm shall be punished by imprisonment in the state prison for two, three, or four years, or in a county jail for not exceeding one year, or by a fine not exceeding ten thousand dollars ...
Carrying a loaded gun at the same time adds an additional year to the total sentence. (PC 12022)
It will be interesting what this guy gets, but I doubt it’s going to be as little as 60 days in the county jail. Worst case it could be as long as five years.
