Desperate parents and friends have been searching frantically for loved ones after the terror attack on the Ariana Grande concert at the Manchester Arena on Monday night.
Fourteen people have been confirmed missing by family and friends following the attack by Salman Abedi that killed 22, among them youngsters. Scores were also injured in the suicide bomb attack outside the main arena at around 10.30pm, after the US singer's performance.
Nell Jones A 14-year-old girl, believed to have been using crutches on the night of the concert, has been reported missing. Members of her family are in Manchester searching for her.
Her cousin, Hollie Webb, wrote on Tuesday night that they were still around the stadium searching for her. She bravely said that the family is OK, writing: "The police have been brilliant, they have taken all the information Nell's family can give and hope that they can identify her. Some ppl are injured and unnamed so we won't lose hope. "We're ok thank you very much (you know normally I'd say something very sarcastic and funny tho)". Ms Jones, who attends Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School. has not been heard from since the concert. A post on Knutsford Young Farmers' Facebook page said: "One of our members and close friend Nell Jones was at the concert last night and sadly is still missing. "If anyone hears from Nell please let someone know! #PrayForNell. "Please share!"

However, all these happy-crap stories about the Manchester victims getting free rides from Muslim cab drivers got me thinking. What if they were kidnapped--or worse? What if the bombing was coordinated with kidnappings from faux cab drivers? A horrible, paranoid thought, but I just can't shake it.
Thoughts?
Hmmn.
I have a friend who is a teacher living very near the arena in Manchester. She was outside the arena when it happened waiting for her niece who was staying the night with her. Her niece was fine, but she wound up taking a dozen or so unaccompanied kids (or kids who just couldn’t find their parents temporarily) home with her. She asked the police if she could take a couple and they gave her a lot.
She’s remarked on how odd it is given the normal paranoia about kids going off with adults that the police simply took her word for the fact that she was a teacher. Didn’t do any checks. Now, by appearance, she’s fairly obviously not likely to be a threat - but she still thought it was odd and potentially risky - though certainly not as risky as leaving half panicked kids wandering around in that situation.
My very thought! Muslim taxi drivers!
My very thought! Muslim taxi drivers!
Like it was once said, beware of Greeks bearing gifts, beware of free taxi rides from muzzie drivers. Nothing would surprise me.
I find that deeply disturbing. Isn’t there a Red Cross or some such organization that could set-up a shelter with security?
I would be beyond pissed if the cops let a complete stranger take my kids in any circumstance.
My first thought too...
It takes time for that type of thing to get set up.
I don’t know about UK law - I’m a teacher in Australia though, and under the law here, any teacher is considered a fit and proper person to take charge of a child in an emergency - we’ve all got background checks and most of the time we are carrying ID that shows we’re teachers. But the right and duty to take charge of a child in danger, in loco parentis, is old common law that I suspect still applies in Britain - our common law came from there.
The only concern my friend really had and I share it is that the police didn’t even ask to see ID or confirm her identity in any way.
It would be done in a couple of hours in the UK as well. But this was less than an hour afterwards, I would say. I’d have to ask her to be sure. I’m sure police wanted as many people out of the immediate area as fast as possible.
That was my thought too. What better time to abduct someone and look like you are helping them.
Possible, but most of the missing are probably unidentified dead. There are quite a few of the 22 that have not been identified publicly.
Leavitt? Human debris incapable of doing anything worth remembering.
Not identified or not identified publicly? I would think they would notify the families immediately after identification.
If there are still unidentified remains, how did LE identify the perp so quickly? They got his ID before anyone else’s. Did they run the DNA that fast? With what on file? And if they relied on the ID found at the site, wasn’t that nice of the perp to make sure he had it on him.
God, I hope this delay isn’t because the bloody British gov’t bean counters are too cheap to rush the DNA tests...
LOL! Good description.
That was kind of my point... :-)
My thoughts as well.
