MANCHESTER, England A 22-year-old British man whose parents had emigrated from Libya was identified by the police on Tuesday as the bomber who carried out Britains deadliest terrorist attack since 2005, an explosion that killed 22 people and injured 59 others at Manchester Arena.
The man, Salman Abedi, lived in a house just 3.5 miles from the arena, where he detonated a homemade bomb in a public concourse around 10:30 p.m. on Monday as a concert by the American pop star Ariana Grande was ending and as crowds of teenagers had begun to leave, many for an adjacent train station. He died in the attack.
At a late afternoon news conference, Chief Constable Ian Hopkins of the Greater Manchester Police identified the bomber as Mr. Abedi after several news publications reported his name, but declined to provide any further details, noting that a coroner had not yet officially identified him.
The priority remains to establish whether he was acting alone or as part of a network, Constable Hopkins said.
Mr. Abedis ID was found at the scene of the bombing, according to a law enforcement official, speaking on the condition of anonymity because the investigation was still underway. Mr. Abedi was born in Britain in 1994, the son of immigrants from Libya, the official said.
According to neighbors, Mr. Abedi lived with his family in a house in Elsmore Road, in the Fallowfield district. The police raided the house on Tuesday afternoon, after setting off a controlled explosion to gain entry.
A neighbor, Lina Ahmed, said she knew little about the family. They didnt really speak to anyone, she said. They were nice people if you walked past. She said the family occasionally displayed a Libyan flag outside the home.

That’s a lot of prayers that are NOT offered in the West.

You should learn how to make distinctions. How many terrorist attacks in the West have been committed by Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs, or other so-called "death cults"?
The common denominator must be eating disorders!

Did I call their religions death cults? Can’t make logical argument so you insist slandering me? Typical liberal thinking.
The name appears to be of Dutch origin.
Could be, but nowadays these Islamists are using the internet for a bunch of this stuff.
Sure check the name if it begins with Mo, Ab, Ak, etc..
“Second and third gen muzzies are the worst. No way to vet for that...”
Get rid of the preachers and instigators.
This terrorist, like so many of the other second generation Westerners, was a “Known Wolf” - known to associate with radicals, be a regular attendee at a radical mosque (which most are in the West), be a student of a radical preacher, or such.
Until we effectively outlaw these doctrines, they will continue to generate.
They are taught that they will be rewarded in Heaven for murder. That teaching is what needs to stop.
We need to k7ck out any SA funding in the US.
Wondering if anyone dropped a dime on the perp and, if so, did authorities act on any info.
What a surprise. Here I thought his name would be something like Oliver St. John-Smythe.
An asymmetric totalitarian bomber self-detonated at a densely populated event in Manchester, UK.
International totalitarianism 1.0
Jihad continues apace.
Their highest level, meaning other attacks could be immanent.
Ive been from Maine to Spain, and Ive never lost my ID even once. Yet this guy just happens to lose his ID on that particular day.
Well, at least they haven’t gone as far as Sweden or Germany where they try to keep the name out of the news, hence we jump to conclusions.
So, what are you suggesting?
I find it odd....that you find it odd.
