JMHO and based on the quantity and volume of wailing and gnashing of teeth (from the MSM, the ‘rats and now even the McCain/Sasse/Collins cabal), I’m beginning to suspect that Comey may just be the linchpin...or maybe the biga$$ drain plug on the Swamp, if you prefer that colorful metaphor.

FBI sees all the intel, has all the old Hoover/Clinton/Obama/+? files, does the investigations, has (or at least had) the public White hat image and could, especially over the Obama years, dictate who/what/when any investigation went on or just got dropped like a bad habit.

I would think that at the very least, his actions prior to the election and subsequent to it, would have called to question the soundness of deciding to keep him on.

So whether an investigation was conducted or not, I think the major players already knew what was called for here.

From an administrative position it would not make sense to fire Comey until after the Justice Department had leveled out on good footing.

Sessions and the other guy making recommendations with cause, was all Trump needed to do the deed.
