Twitter users concerned about the bill passed the House to repeal and replace Obamacare are sharing their personal health stories on Twitter under the hashtag #IamaPreexistingCondition.
The hashtag started to trend hours after Republicans in the House narrowly pushed through the American Health Care Act, which would drastically remake health care in the U.S.
By midday Friday ET, it had trended worldwide with about 146,000 tweets so far.
Some celebrities joined in.

“A buddy of mine waiting 9 months to save up for a hernia operation, paid cash.”
I was beginning to believe I was the only one who did that. Most difficult part... getting a price from a provider.
Too bad we can’t go back to simpler times when health insurance really was insurance - providing coverage only for major items like hospitalizations that people could not afford to pay for themselves. All other expenses were paid out-of-pocket directly to the provider.
People have this idea that health insurance companies will not take you unless you are under 35 and in the peak of health. That is, or rather was, incorrect.
If you have continual insurance coverage from the time the condition started it should not be a problem.
Even if you did not you can get insurance that will cover everything but that one condition.
Usually they will start picking up the tab for the PEC after a year or two.
So if you buy health insurance a week before you are due then, no, it will not cover it. But it probably will cover your next child.
And it will cover if you fall down and break a leg.
The whole Obamacare fiasco could have been dealt with with community pricing and no denial for current healt (pre-existing conditions)
Instead it was turned into th fiasco that it became.
Like it or not there are a lot of fools here who don’t understand anything about insurance or health care but pop off like the ignoramouses they are.
Insurance by its very construct is socialism... it is the socializing of the risk... all pay in, some will use more than others but as long the total amount paid in is greater than the overall use it works.
If you think you can allow folks to pick and choose who they will cover or charge varying prices based on perceived need the whole thing falls apart. Those who have heavy need are left without and fall into government coverage... so thinking that denying pre-existing condition or having things othe than community pricing is saving you tax dollars is idiotic.
You can’t solve issues with a socialist construct by thinking applying Laise faire capitalism to it...
I would advise you or your daughter to move to a state that has community pricing and does not allow pre existing conditions at the state level, because if these fools get their way it’s the only way she/you are going to avoid fiscal calamity
Time to troll Twitter folks.
Government is the major player in health care and insurance which is why everything has gotten so expensive. Doctors can’t afford to do charity work, plus the greedy trial lawyers are always standing by ready to pounce. We desperately need tort reform, but with weasels like Lindsey Graham getting huge amounts of cash from trial lawyers, it’s unlikely to happen.
Well, I’ll post what I always post, to at least give another Freeper side to the story.
I have a heart defect, therefore, I have never been able to get health insurance, never...there was not one single company that was willing to sell me health insurance.
I had insurance for years through my employer, but they cancelled all health insurance, so I went on COBRA, but that expired after 16 months and I was SOL, not one company anywhere would sell me health insurance.
Now, I have it, due to O-Care abolishing the pre-condition refusal.
I know there are Darwinist Freepers here who think that if my heart ruptured and I didn’t have $750,000 in the bank to pay the hospital and surgeon, that I should just die.
Well, I personally think that’s barbaric, it’s a throwback to the days when the old, sick, weak and lame were left outside to die from the cold or wolves.
Rationally speaking, we’ve moved past letting non-millionaires die because no one is willing to sell them life insurance...and any new bill must include pre-condition help or it won’t pass.
Ed
And that is why we are headed for economic disaster.
Exactly...
Prior to Crap Care, I religiously paid for health insurance. A decent family plan ~ $15k/annual. Thanks to Crap Care, I’m paying much more for much less. So, I’m now expected to pay for those that chose not to maintain continual insurance?
Somehow we survived as a nation for 234 years before Saint Obama put forth his Pre-Existing Coverage decree... and the Left is pretending that it has been taken from them (it hasnt), that the GOP is pushing to take it away (they havent), and that people are at risk because of it (they arent).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Exactly.
Notice the register date of the posters who love Obamacare in this thread. They’re almost all from when Obamacare was being voted in or already in place.
IOW, “concern” trolls.
Yup, wait until their child is born with a heart defect, Marian’s or the like, and they’re denied coverage for their child, they won’t let her die, they’ll do whatever it takes to fix her...
I struggled for years to get ANYONE to sell me health insurance, no go...they wanted me to die, clean the gene pool.
Thank God I have insurance now, but if my state opts out, and I’m denied again, I’ll be in a world of jury, as will many others, through no fault of our own, other than our genes.
Ed
I had the same thing, till my employer canceled everyone’s health insurance.
I was able to get COBRA until it expired after 16 months then I was completely unable to buy it from ANYONE!
That’s not right...
Ed
I hope you’re being sarcastic.
It’s not easy to just say “okay, it’s time to die now, goodbye world,” when you have a family that depends upon you, and loved ones that need you.
Ed
Does your current employer offer health insurance? You said you’ve never been able to get health insurance except when you have. Are you self employed?
I agree. We are no longer the kind of nation that puts its poor, sick and elderly people outside to die from the cold, or be eaten by wolves.
There has to be a way for the unfortunate to be cared for, or allowed to buy health insurance.
Ed
Yeah there is. Insurance is to pay for unknown future losses. Preexisting conditions is not an "unknown future loss".
When a consumer pays for a service, theyre entitled to get a service in return.
And you would if you got insurance...it would cover everything except your pre-x.
If an insurance company wants to charge people for a policy and not cover a pre-existing condition...
Then they would actually be selling real insurance. But to cover the pre-x would be a private-sector welfare. In order to get "health insurance" first you must have good health to insure. After that, if you get sick...they must pay for it and can't drop you.
Id love to go into business, make people pay me hundreds of dollars per month, and give nothing in return.
That's not what happens...the insurers pay millions of dollars in claims every day, to patients who were well, and then got sick. They have to pay out about 80 cents of every premium dollar they take in...by law.
I may be disabled, but I deserve health care as much as you.
YES YOU DO, but healthcare is not the same as health insurance, the same way body/fender and paint work isn't the same as auto insurance.
There is very likely some other mechanism out there that will cover your expenses, but it's not insurance.
Some want everything and cost them nothing. They are victims and have no responsibility. It is your duty to take care of poor me.
That is not what happened to me. My company canceled health insurance for all its employees and while I was able to get 16 more months through COBRA, it expired, and I was completely unable to buy health insurance from anybody.
>>>Im sorry, but you are wrong. Young adults who have aged off their parents insurance and have pre-existing conditions cant get insurance. There are lots and lots of them out there<<<
First of all, don’t be sorry. We are here to discuss and educate each other and even at my advanced age I learn something new every day. #;^)
Just to clarify, I was referring to people in my situation who have always had coverage, but I understand your point.
Any idea on how to rectify that situation?
My Post offered a suggestion that those with Pre Existing Conditions should have those specific issues covered by a High Risk Pool. That way they can purchase Insurance for anything but the identified specific Pre Existing Condition.
I know the entire issue revolves around Government involvement, but that Ship sailed long ago. Now we have to concentrate on controlling that involvement. It will never be eliminated no matter how much we wish it was possible.
I assume that could apply to the Children you mentioned.
No matter what it is a complicated situation. Personally I think a separate High Risk Pool would resolve the issue and would put the Insurance Business back to where it should be, mitigating the liability of unforeseen circumstances.
Yup...that is the reality.
