I have no doubt the US Government would lie to Americans (after all, I lived through the Clinton and Obama administrations, whose entire schtick WAS lying to the American people the same way they breathe. And don’t get me started on JFK’s whole “missile gap” statement he knew full well wasn’t true while on the campaign trail due to Eisenhower having briefed him on that beforehand.).
However, I have doubts about the government being responsible for JFK’s assassination, whether it be GHWB, CIA, LBJ, or Nixon, even with it being unsurprising if it were indeed the case. And the main reason why is because Ion Mihai Pacepa made it pretty clear that, if anyone was responsible, it was the Soviets, more specifically the KGB, and he has pretty convincing testimony about the Soviets being responsible. And thanks to LucyT for the Bush photos, what I’ve seen is how both the man in the TSBD photo and Bush 41 put their hands in their pockets the same way; along with a similar head angle.
The Mafia killed JFK. The Godfathers of the plot were Carlos Marcello, Santos Trafficante and Sam Giancana. Dallas was part of Marcello’s territory. An attempt earlier that mouth was prevented in Tampa (Trafficante’s home) and also Chicago (Giancana).
Marcello was particularly angered by RFK who had him, basically, abducted from the courthose in New Orleans. He was taken to Guatemala, released into the jungle with no money or clothes. He almost died. At this point he swore to get vengeance.
Before their deaths all three said that it was done because of their conspiracy.
The government was not in a conspiracy to kill JFK but had been so compromised that it was forced into a cover-up. Any honest investigation would follow a thread and it would lead to the revelation of a plot by the Mafia and the CIA to kill Castro called “C-Day”. This would precipitate an uprising to overthrow the Castro regime.

I believe that it would be expected that the Russian gov't would do anything and everything it could to hide any links with LHO. That they started a campaign the day after the assassination should be no surprise.
One of the links in the PJ media article you referenced had a tremendous amount of letters/documentation that showed Oswald was an agent for Russia. Is this stuff real?

This video link concerns a reporter named Connie Kritzberg. Her newspaper story was changed by people that her editor said were FBI and it was done just hours after the shooting.
How would the Russians have agents posing as FBI agents censor a news story in a Dallas newspaper the day of the assassination? If they really were FBI agents, there is NO reason a few hours after the assassination that they would be trying to pass the lone gunman lie.
As hard as I try, I cannot think of any way that the Russians could make the US gov't make an effort to hide the fact that there were multiple shooters in Dealey Plaza. Why do you think the Russians could pull that off?
