The North refused to remove their troops from sovereign confederate soil at Ft. Sumter in S. Carolina, and even attempted to fortify their position there.

It wasn't sovereign Confederate soil. It belonged to the federal government. What mystical act transferred ownership from one to the other?

Secession... both times.
