Does Ivanka Trump's new fund violate ethics law?
Chicago Tribune ^ | April 27,2017 | Jennifer Rubin

It was bad enough when Hillary Clinton as secretary of state agreed to have meetings with people who had given to her foundation. Now, according to news reports, Ivanka Trump, while a federal employee, is soliciting donations for a new fund from foreigners. This comes on top of instances in which she sat with heads of state (from Japan and China) at a time that her business was doing deals in their countries.

Mike Allen, co-founder and executive editor of AXIOS Media and former chief political reporter for Politico, reported: “Ivanka Trump told me yesterday from Berlin that she has begun building a massive fund that will benefit female entrepreneurs around the globe. Both countries and companies will contribute to create a pool of capital to economically empower women. … Canadians, Germans and a few Middle Eastern countries have already made quiet commitments, as have several corporations, a source said.”

If true, this is egregious and potentially illegal, according to multiple ethics and legal experts...

Clinton Foundation vs Ivanka Trump Foundation

Both funds solicit foreign money.

Eric Trump closed his chritable foundation for children. He had it a long time. Why does Ivanka Trump get to start this foundstion, especially with foreign funds.

She is an unpaid advisor to the president. Not sure if she is a government “employee” as employee is defined.

Also if she is unpaid by the foundation it seems there would be nothing illegal.

Frankly, I’d be a lot more comfortable if Ivanka and her husband would both return to NYC. Putting aside questionable (even if defensible) appearances, it’s pretty obvious both are RINOs and it’s established they’re the ones trying to marginalize Bannon.

Ivanka is under the same rules/ethics as other federal employees. An unpaid employee, but still considered an employee under the “Bobby Kennedy” rule.

Eric Trump gave up his Foundation helping sick children because of any appearances of impropriety. He really loved working with the Foundation too.

Ivanka doesn’t seem to care about a problem with appearances.

I am pretty sure that she has lawyers who have looked at this. She can have a .org that makes no profit and does not pay her anything. That is not illegal. And we she says that its hers. She means that she is involved with it. But not that she owns it or runs it.

Of course it’s illegal...

She is a Trump and she breaths the free air...

Some libtards think it’s illegal for her to breath...

When I see Hillary behind bars, I’d be concerned about this...

I’m sure Gorelick approved it.

So does Ivanka pay for the security, air travel, etc as she uses her position to collect money to give to other countries?

Clinton Foundation didn’t take money directly for the Clintons either. Contributors just so happen to give Bill speaking engagements at the same time or work deals, such as helping a front company connected to their friends give 20% of our uranium to Russians.

The game isn’t played giving directly to Ivanka and Jared. Contributors will buy/sell influence all over the world.

I tend to agree. It might be the most honest and transparent operation in the world, but the comparisons will always be made.

Pass it off to someone for four or eight years.

I’m not sure who paid for her Berlin trip. She was invited by Merkel, but I imagine we paid for the trip.

Ivanka’s travel to Europe to meet with the German government was paid for by lots of parties. The Germans paid for some. The Americans paid for her personal security. As they would if she went to New York. And she paid for any extras that she did not want to expense. Both because its just a pain to expense, and because she does not want someone second guessing her.

You are absolutely correct. If Trump should have a downfall (heaven forbid) it will be because of these two Democrat-liberal globalists. No one elected Jared or Ivanka. Please depart from the White House, Now! Let the seasoned conservatives manage affairs of state.

The problem comes when her friends and family get large pay checks like Chelsea’s $600,000 to watch it. If its a pile of money run by someone else who is paid a reasonable amount, then there is little problem with it. She does have to make sure that donations don’t equal access to her, her husband, or her father.

It's Trump's enemies problem and that is about it. Position and laws give Trump the right to create this.

Personally they need to reform the whole tax system. I don't like the fact that charitable enterprises are tax/income havens that are pathetically taken advantage of while the middle-class or even upper-middle class are completely “exposed” sans of course ever-changing deductibles (Upper-middle class can take that as "advantages"). Would rather have a system where charity is not some sort of cynical tax/income avoidance “creature”. From the heart, that is it.
