With less than 24 hours before the government runs out of money, precipitating a partial shutdown of services, President Donald Trump et the Democrats know that there are limits to what he and the Republican Congress will accept to keep the government operating.
Democrats have bee piling up conditions under which they would agree to a budget resolution that would fund the government through September 30. But the difficulty of the negotiations have forced Hill Republicans to offer a one week extension of funding to keep the government operating.
But if Democrats won't accept the stop gap measure, the president is prepared for a government shut down.
"We'll see what happens. If there's a shutdown, there's a shutdown," Trump told Reuters in an interview, adding that Democrats would be to blame if the federal government was left unfunded.
Congress has until 12:01 a.m. ET on Saturday to pass a bill to fund the government or face a shutdown, which would temporarily lay off hundreds of thousands of federal workers.
Republicans introduced a bill on Wednesday to fund government operations at current levels for one more week, giving them time to finish negotiations with Democrats on the plan for the rest of the fiscal year ending Sept. 30.
Trump said a shutdown would be a "very negative thing" but that his administration was prepared if it was necessary.
In a wide-ranging interview, he defended the one-page tax plan he unveiled on Wednesday from criticism that it would increase the U.S. deficit, saying better trade deals and economic growth would offset the costs.
"We will do trade deals that are going to make up for a tremendous amount of the deficit.

“The Libs will get some hand-picked judge from somewhere to tell the fed how and where to spend the money. Judges have really stepped up the illegal and unconstitutional legislating-from-the-bench lately.”
The lawless ‘judicial branch’ is the real threat to liberty and the conservice cause, and has been since it became atavist after FDR stacked the bench.
Our only long term solution to this problem is a reembarrassing of the 3 branch system and restricting the judicial branch to cases of law before them.
Doing that is going to be difficult and require a great deal of political will. We must show the judges acting like dictators and refusing to go along with them and their lawless demands as patriotic and democratic. On the grounds of the separation of powers.
In practice we must acknowledge their power to decide guilt in individual cases of law. But not their power to issue broad edict as to extend beyond that case.
The Federal court does not dictate the law, only the guilt in a individual case of law. This basic constitutional printable must be restored if we are to have the rule of law rather than the rule of uncollected men in black robes.
No wall, no government.
Yeah but if it shuts down, like Ann Coulter says: “schoolchildren couldn’t visit national parks and welfare checks won’t get mailed on time” lol
RE: schoolchildren couldnt visit national parks and welfare checks wont get mailed on time
That is, if we have a President Obama.
I’m simply asking you about the definition of a word.
Your inability to answer a direct question is telling.
That might be a legitimate definition in the real world (private sector) but sager is right.
In the District of Corruption, during a “shutdown” they call it a furlough, they don’t go to “work” and then they get paid.
What else would you expect from union-thug bureaucRATs?
How?
Words mean things. That definition comes directly from OPM.
...but sagar is right...
Not based on his initial ranting comment.
In the District of Corruption, during a shutdown they call it a furlough, they dont go to work and then they get paid.
So, you are saying that shutdown = furlough?
If so, look at sagar's rant: "Shut it down. ANd make sure there is no furlough"
So...
Aren’t you a little obsessed with the tree bark, forgetting about the damn forest. Go dig up Webster for the word “bark”... let’s discuss what it “really” means.

I’m being gracious.
Not to the RATs....and the drive-by RATagandists. They violate the language on a daily basis.
So, you are saying that shutdown = furlough?
No, THEY are saying it. They said it before, when Clinton shut down the government. (which he did) In fact he told the union-thug bureaucRATs not to worry, they would get their back pay for the time missed.
