United Airlines Passenger Was Violent in Removal, Police Report Says
The New York Times ^ | April 25, 2017 | Jonah Engel Bromwich

Posted on 04/26/2017 7:44:23 PM PDT by SarahPalin2012

Newly released police documents claim that Dr. David Dao, the passenger who was shown being dragged off a United Airlines flight on April 9 in widely shared videos, behaved violently toward the officers removing him, but his lawyer dismissed this account as “utter nonsense.”

The phone videos taken by other passengers set off waves of criticism and multiple statements from the airline, each more apologetic than the last.

The police reports were released Monday afternoon in response to a freedom of information request filed by The New York Times and other news organizations. The releases included audio of the original call to the Chicago Department of Aviation police, personnel reports about the officers and an incident report that appeared to blame Dr. Dao for his own injuries.

A person can fake unconciousness but they can’t fake a concussion.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Correct. But a person CAN engage in behavior that makes them responsible for suffering a concussion, as did the good doctor.

I would be on Dao’s side if they were trying to throw him off of the plane at 30,000 feet. He would have every right to act the way he did.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Now that right there is funny! LOL.

Tell it to the CEO of United. He told the world that Dao was completely innocent of wrong behavior. Not a smart move...unless it happened to be true.

This concept of relinquishing your civil rights when buying a ticket to fly is truly astounding.

This doctor was beaten for speaking up about being arbitrarily selected for removal AFTER being seated. Why? The airline needed his seat for an employee.

Freerepublic has been invaded by “You must follow orders” posters. It’s stuning.

Clearly if I were a UA lawyer I would go after Doa’s mental state. He is not right. His behavior was NOT normal. I don’t think UA is responsible if a passenger is mentally deranged.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
He may indeed by mentally deranged, but I think he was clever enough to see the situation as an opportunity to sue United Airlines. What he didn’t anticipate was that his resistance would cost him a few teeth and a cracked skull.

Dao was never violent. To be a scammer, he’d have needed to know in advance United would knock his teeth out. That’s a stupid premise.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The good doctor begged the airline’s agents to drag him off the plane, so they accommodated him. The fact that he was injured in the process is his fault for acting like an arsehole.

What’s most astounding in the idea that United is empowered to administer street/vigilante ‘justice.’ Who needs trials? Juries are so passe. Just knock Dao’s teeth out, break his nose, tase him and bash his head.

It’s all good; he deserved it.

We’ve got some bona fide sociopaths in this discussion. Nothing else explains it.

Your view is too sick and twisted to debate. I’ll just say this. No one on United’s legal team will be so staggeringly stupid as to suggest Dao wanted to be dragged off the plane. It takes an IQ of 80 or less to believe/argue that. Lawyers can’t be that stupid and pass the bar, so none of them will put forth such idiocy.

Looks like the Chicago Dept of Aviation also suspended a supervisor in addition to the 3 officers involved. Sounds pretty bad for them when their own dept. disavowed their behavior.

Could they even face criminal charges? There's a distinct possibility.

If he was violent with the police, why wasn’t he charged with assault on a police officer?

Good point.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
What the CEO’s statement reveals is that he’s an idiot, because everyone on the planet with a correctly functioning brain knows that the first thing one’s attorney tells a client is to keep his mouth SHUT and let the attorney do his job. The CEO should now be unemployed for opening his yap.

Two days after the incident, United’s lawyers briefed Munoz and then sent him onto GMA to do much needed damage control. When he informed the world that Dao was completely innocent, he was doing no more than he’d been commissioned to do.

What the doctor wanted was a confrontation, and his behavior made that perfectly obvious. He acted like a moron and his injuries were the result. Why did he act like a moron? I think he did so because he’s a scammer. You don’t agree? No problem!
