More than a third of Europeans and Americans would be happy to go without cash and rely on electronic forms of payment if they could, and at least 20 percent already pretty much do so, a study showed on Wednesday.
The study, which was conducted in 13 European countries, the United States and Australia, also found that in many places where cash is most used, people are among the keenest to ditch it.
Overall, 34 percent of respondents in Europe and 38 percent in the United States said they would be willing to go cash-free, according to the survey conducted by Ipsos for the ING bank website eZonomics.
Twenty-one percent and 34 percent in Europe and the United States, respectively, said they already rarely use cash.

True dat. Pre-war dollars OTOH....not so much.
Same here. When you're pulling cash from your pocket, you're more than aware of it being spent and your pocket getting empty. Not so with credit cards. Carrying around just so much cash is a restraint on overspending, or buying useless crap. Plus I don't like anyone (gov't or otherwise) tracking my spending habits; cash works great for anonymous purchasing. Almost always use cash, and have no debts, unlike credit card loving friends of mine.

I do a lot of online shopping and use a credit card for just about everything I buy,on or off line———I have no debts either, and have never paid interest.

The government wants to eliminate the black market.
More than that, the government wants to see every move you make and control every move you make. That is not freedom.

This is why I said "almost always" use cash. For some stuff I buy online makes up the rest of the "almost". My income is direct deposited, and my online purchases are tied to my accounts. Any use of credit card accounts is paid in full right away and no interest is paid out. My wife will only use credit cards that give cash back for purchases on them. So online, I can't use cash so easily. But everything else, I use real cash in the pocket as much as possible. For buying a new car, we use a check but it's cash behind it, no loans. Like you, I hate the thought of paying out any interest and avoid it.
Yes...they will. The gubbamint already eliminated one thousand and one hundred dollar denomination currency. Now there is talk about getting rid of the fifty note.
All in the name of the war on drugs, now the war on terror.
There will be nothing we can do about it. Don't know when it will happen, but it's just a matter of time.
Bitcoin works fine.
This is how the Ramsonware criminals get paid.
What happens if there’s a power failure? Then you have no money. The “cashless” society is not ready for prime time.
I make NO Electronic transactions of any kind EVER, 100% Cash.
Every Central Banker in the world is salivating and masturbating at the thought of a Pure Digital Fiat Monetary system. The peasant Serfs that buy in to this will be the first to be Enslaved by their Public Masters

....”What happens if theres a power failure? Then you have no money”....
You don’t even need that to have them take control of your money.. Heck I had to change my bank card over to a chipped card. So I did it right there at the bank...asked if it needed any time to kick in and he said no..you can use it right away, if it won’t work with the chip just have them slide it.
Well with almost $200. worth of groceries fully run through the checkout....I got 3 declines....so I went to the ATM and that too was declined. Called the bank (now after hours) and was told there is a 24 hour hold on your money! and there was nothing they could do.
Thank God my son was with me and paid for the groceries for me...but I was beyond livid!

Bump to what you wrote. We could be twins :)
Get a bunch of prepaid "credit cards" in various amounts. Not traceable.
If you use a credit card to buy a pre-paid card then it is traceable.
Sorry, this being a pro cash thread, I assumed you’d buy the credit cards with cash.
