Trump to pull feds out of K-12 education

President Trump will sign an executive order Wednesday to start pulling the federal government out of K-12 education, following through on a campaign promise to return schools to state and local control.

The order, dubbed the “Education Federalism Executive Order,” will launch a 300-day review of Obama-era regulations and guidance for school districts and direct Education Secretary Betsy DeVos to modify or repeal measures deemed an overreach by the federal government, according to a senior administration official

“With this executive order, President Trump has reaffirmed his commitment to getting the federal government out of the way and returning control over education back where it belongs at the state and local level,” said the officials, who briefed reporters on background in advance of the signing ceremony later Wednesday.

Echoing Mr. Trump’s views on education, the official stressed that since the founding of the U.S., schools were intended to be under state control, but the federal government has increasingly usurped that authority.

This is the problem. Republicans can win every election from now until 2100, but would still have an opposition party to battle against.

Dept of Education needs to be shut down

Ronald Reagan said the same thing, yet here we are.

After the Feds pull out will the patriotic states take advantage of the vacuum to redesign their curicullum to really teach the 3Rs, the Constitution, real history, and American civics?

I don't think he has the guts to do it.

Ronald Reagan sure didn't.

The constitution of North Dakota declares that children educated in religious schools cannot be good citizens. But nobody notices because it’s worded a little more deviously. But that is in fact the rationale the constitution sets forth for government schooling.

If you allow ANY level of government to usurp the role of parents, you have already capitulated to the statists at every level. You have already conceded that parents are infants who cannot be trusted with their own children.

“Which judge will block this order?”

What’s the point of blocking a 300 day review?

Many states changed their constitutions in the late 1800s in response to private catholic schools so they could get no funding.
I was a teacher for a few years and can tell you that if left to parents many kids would never get an education.

I would suggest reading the source article because the CRAP SANDWICH is not going anywhere. Obama regulations are easy to reverse. Much of the federal control of education is codified into law. That will require passing legislation, something democrats and RINOs won't do.

Such parents are themselves products of the government system which was designed to infantilize them.

" No more tenure.....which was most of the time tenure for folks who should not be in the classroom to begin with!"

Excellent!!

Excellent teachers don't need "tenure" in the first place! Just as in the ordinary workplace in America, excellent employees who produce excellent products (in this case, teachers who produce improvement in the learning performance of children, will be in demand and do not need teacher union/state/bureaucracy protection--such teachers always will be in demand.

I’m not the least bit concerned about Ivanka. No matter what her political bent, she is not the president, her father is - and he is turning out to be far more strongly rooted in conservative principles than anyone (myself included) gave him credit for.

One of those principles seems to be a strong commitment to keeping campaign promises. He is pleasantly surprising us daily with issues like getting the federal government out of K-12.

Furthermore, he seems to be the one bringing these issues up, not reacting to pressure, political expediency or whoever he last spoke with.

And if Ivanka wants to be a voice for empowering women, feeding the poor or even saving baby seals or some such thing normally associated with liberalism, I don’t see any harm in that. Conservatives don’t believe in redistribution but that doesn’t mean we are not compassionate - it’s about time we dispelled that leftist lie.

I guess it’s a legitimate concern that Ivanka and Jarad might push the president in a globalist direction - but I see no sign of that at all - zero. nada. And he hardly seems like the type to be pushed.

Ivanka may disagree with him on some things but I doubt she wants to ‘manage’ him even if she could. She seems to like him the way he is.

I think the primary reason for getting the federal government out of education is not a question of effectiveness and whether kids learn to read and write.

The real threat is that the federal involvement in education will produce little leftists.

Look at the map of red / blue by county. It’s a sea of red rural areas with a scattering of small islands of blue urban areas with extremely high population densities.

Yet the blue actually outnumbers the red in a pure popular vote.

The differences between the two go way beyond colors - different values, different work ethic, different view of individual liberty vs the collective. Different in so many ways, and the federal government seeks to eliminate those differences.

I’m all for kids being taught effectively and getting a good education, but I suspect the tests which are supposed to measure effectiveness really exist to discredit local educators and justify more central control.

Don’t fall for it - federal control of education will be the death of the republic.

President Trump has not put a deadline on how long DACA applications should be accepted. There should be one, perhaps tied to the end of the academic year. Is there an Ivanka influence in that? She met with Planned parenthood. She supports the "right to choose". She clouds Trump's vision. Besides that, why is she still branding merchandise, having taken a position on the WH staff? Her idea of doing something good for women's rights is to hold conference with globalist elites. Soon after she met with the Premier of China, her brand was licensed in China.

Sorry, I can't agree with you. She just doesn't share in her daddy's vision. Besides that, I cannot figure out what she's accomplished on her own, without relying on daddy's accomplishments.

I know she has different views and I agree she owes her success to her daddy being rich.

I don’t really care about her merchandising while holding a public position - all the stuff about so-called conflict of interest is just BS that the left accuses the right of. The left doesn’t hold their own politicians to any such standard.

As far as Trump not setting a deadline for DACA, I doubt she had anything to do with it.

The Ivanka concern seems like a big nothing burger to me - just my opinion...

Even if you don’t see the Ivanka issue the same way some of us do, ignoring it would be unwise. One reason people had a distaste for a Bush and Clinton being the insider faves was the dynasty issue. Some voted for Trump to avoid that. Do you seriously think that Ivanka being handed a position in the administration won’t be used as an issue against Trump?

“Do you seriously think that Ivanka being handed a position in the administration won’t be used as an issue against Trump?”

All sorts of real and fake news issues will be used against Trump by his enemies - what I don’t get is why his supporters here on FR join in on these fake issues, supposedly out of concern for his political well being and concern for the conservative movement.

The left wants to destroy Trump because he’s a genuine threat to all that they hold dear, namely the redistributive federal government. They seek to undermine his support by ‘reporting’ that he is breaking his campaign promises, he isn’t what he says he is, he is a closet globalist out to help his billionaire friends, he is fooling conservatives.

If you find yourself saying the same things the left is saying against Trump, maybe you should consider the possibility you are letting them get insude your head.

Here are the real news issues Trump’s enemies are really worried about but they don’t want to debate honestly:

Trump wants to drain the swamp
Trump is America first
Trump wants to secure the border
Trump wants to cut taxes
Trump wants to eliminate federal agencies
Trump wants to reduce regulations
Trump wants to protect the constitution and 2nd amendment
Trump us pro life and wants pro life judges
Trump is eliminating the globalist uniparty

Here are some fake news issues the left wants to use as a way of creating wedges, sowing doubt, and undermining Trump’s support:

Trump is packing his cabinet with GS globalist types
Trump’s daughter and son in law control him
Trump hasn’t gotten anything done
Trump is destroying the GOP
Trump is a puppet for the alt right
Trump is a racist
Trump uses executive orders to bypass the congress and constitution

Sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference between real and fake, but one good way is to listen to CNN and MSNBC, etc., if they are saying it - chances are its fake.
