Facing bi-partisan opposition to including funds to build a wall along the US southern border in the spending bill to keep the government operating past this weekend, President Trump told a group of conservative media representatives that he may drop his insistence for the wall funding if it will help pass the legislation.
"On funding the border wall, Trump said he could get it this week or the administration could come back to it in September," Trey Yingst, a White House correspondent for One America News, reported in a tweet. A White House official who asked for anonymity confirmed what Trump said during the private meeting.
Democrats, whose votes will be needed to help pass the spending plan, hope he’ll blink to avoid an embarrassing milestone for a new president trying to prove he can govern. A partial shutdown would start on Saturday, Trump’s 100th day in office.
"The President’s comments this evening are welcome news given the bipartisan opposition to the wall, and the obstacle it has been to the continuing bipartisan negotiations in the appropriations committees," House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi said in a statement. "It’s time for Congress to act to make it clear that government will remain open for the American people."
Democrats are united in their opposition to including any funding for a border wall in the bill. They are also opposing a measure that would cut off funding to Planned Parenthood. Republicans will need at least some Democrats to vote for the funding bill in order to avoid a government shut down since some House conservatives are balking at the price tag.

Trump’s position hasn’t changed, but reality is if he can’t get them to fund it now, it simply won’t happen.
Are we to believe the (large) group of weak ass GOP members will have more courage closer to 2018?
This party is disgustingly weak and ineffective at governing on a national level. We are only good at running states and gerrymandering apparently.
Not on ideas, but on pure determination to convert their ideas to laws, I respect the democratic party much more. At least the know how to take a president’s agenda, put it into the system, and twist arms and push people around until it gets done.
Trump should Drop Ryan
2018 needs to be the time when we give Trump 216 Congressmen, who share our views and support his agenda. He shouldn’t have to be dragging the GOP to support the wall / 0care repeal, they should be there already.
Let’s start with Ryan and use 2018 to rebuild the GOP with people who’ll have Trump’s back.

He should negotiate...take out all the pet funding for Dims and RINOs, all the things they think they can’t live without- or be re-elected without. Then tell them he will put SOME of those items back for wall funding.
The wall can be easily funded, I 94s to cross border into U.S. cost $6, raise the price to $10 and use the difference to pay for the wall. Paying the permit fee and making change would be so much easier for that amount it would actually decrease wait times at the border so would be a win even for those paying more.
If the administration were to establish such a fund to help build the wall, I'll donate.

Being a Trump supporter is just fine but do not expect lock step following from any thinking man.....or woman. That is never going to happen from a real Conservative, that is the hat of the Trump true believers who lock step follow whatever direction he decides to lead even the liberal path to destruction, like on Obamacare 2.0 and MAD Syria envolvement that endangers the US. All these bad mouthing of conservatives do is have them leave the party or stay home, which is when republicans lose historically. The stupid party needs to stop being stupid.

I think the left would immediately insist this be the way military funding be done as well and try to place the whole burden for keeping them safe on just those of us who actually care about national security.
Nice idea though, maybe they could do a separate donation fund to pay for some extra flourishes to the wall. Donate $25, add a US flag to be flown from the top of the wall, something like that.

Guess what... Trump should just put in some “other”
financing- and be innocuous about what it is for— like:
we need $900 million for”advanced security” training for
our border agents-
WE need $500 million for additional training facilities
We need $750 million for more ammo and other supplies deemed necessary by the border patrol - (just like O’bummer)
$500 $million for border assessment and improvements

Yes everyone needs to get a grip. I live on the border, and put up with all the things that happen here. I am being patient because I do believe he will build a wall. I know he is ramping up border security and deporting far more illegals than the fake media wants you to think. Many changes, and I am trusting in him to do as he says he will. Of course I want the wall yesterday, but I am also realistic.
President Trump is getting more done than anyone thought possible, and there is a lot on his plate for sure. Just let it play out.
We need to be calling our RINOs that are part of the “bipartisan” opposition. They need to stop playing footsie with the dims.
