Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed that he would take part in international forum "One Belt - One Way" which is expected to take place in China on May 14-15 of this year.

At a meeting with chairman of the Committee of the National People's Congress of China, Zhang Dejiang in the Kremlin, Putin pointed out the importance of Russian-Chinese inter-parliamentary ties.

"You will be our guest of highest honor. The meeting of the leaders of Russia and China will be held within the framework of the forum. This is particularly important for strengthening friendship and cooperation between our countries," Zhang Dejiang told Putin.

During the G20 summit in September 2016, Russian and Chinese presidents Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping led the column of world leaders and went together to the conference room.

Noteworthy, Chinese Minister for Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi, speaking on Hong Kong's Fenghuang TV channel, said that China was ready, if necessary, to provide Russia with all possible assistance - from economic to military spheres.

At the same time, growing friendship between Russia and China raises serious concerns in the West. Western leaders believe that the alliance of Russia and China has the ultimate goal to undermine the positions of the United States as their prime competitor. Western publications pay attention to the fact that Russia and China often side with each other at the UN Security Council to veto Washington's initiatives.

I think Russia wants to have a seat at the table discussing what to do with N. Korea after the collapse of Kim regime.

By the way, major actors involved have multiple theaters of interest. China has N. Korea, Taiwan, and S. China Sea. Russia has Mideast, Eastern Europe(Ukraine,) and N. Korea. U.S. has Mideast, S. China Sea, and N. Korea (for now.) An event in one location will have direct impact on others. They have to evaluate the situation and draw up the list of priorities.

Don't bet on it.
This problem needs a REAL solution, and that starts with the Air Force/Boeing project, CHAMP (“Counter-electronics High-powered Microwave Advanced Missile Project”) and MOP ("Massive Ordnance Penetrator").

Then we launch every aircraft in the region that's supersonic, including South Korea's fighters and bombers, to cross into North Korea from all directions, to overfly low level at Mach One PLUS, to bust every piece of glass in North Korea.
Then we firebombs the place to ashes.
The only real transportation system North Korea has is the railroads, so they get blown to smithereens. and that's just the start of day one.

North Korea experts Victor Cha and David Kang posted on the website of Foreign Policy magazine late last month that the North can fire 500,000 rounds of artillery on Seoul in the first hour of a conflict.

If accurate that means NK can fire almost 8,500 shells within a minute at Seoul. Even if all shells are conventional weapons that will kill thousands in Seoul, tens of thousands. 5 minutes in that number goes up to the hundred thousands. 15-30 minutes millions.

There are 24 million people in Seoul. If NK launched shells containing Sarin or some other chemical agent it could be worse.

Their artillery cannot be allowed to fire. The problem is time. If we launched an attack the norks would know we were coming immediately, they would fire. To take out all their artillery conventionally without them firing is impossible.

That’s the problem.

EMP from several stealth CHAMP cruise missiles will wipe out the communications to those artillery units.
The chances of them all getting the order to start the bombardment is small.
The large clusters of artillery units north of the DMZ are prime targets for large weapons,
and we still have Neutron Bombs, and Tactical Nuclear weapons that are easily carried on most of the fighter aircraft we have in the region (aircraft carriers).
Then there's the weapons ROK has along the DMZ.
I think the preemptive strike will be well panned and well coordinated.
Don't forget about what the stealth bombers can do, attacking from a direction that the North is not planning on.
If, by some slight chance, Trump does get permission to overfly China's airspace for the preemptive strike, that'll really reek havoc on North Korea's defensive plans.

Have you every been on the Seoul Subway System ?
It's massive, and millions of people can be underground, all of them using it at one time.

You really should spend some time with the South Korean people.
They're not cowards, and the Korean War is very fresh in their minds.
You should go to their war museums in Seoul and see what the Japanese did to them during World War II.
They WILL fight, and fight very well.

The NK are constantly in a state of war, comms being cut is probably a go ahead to fire.

We aren’t going to use any nukes or neutron bombs(which we aren’t supposed to have) in a pre-emptive strike. There’s just no way, that would be monumentally stupid and a great way to lose support world-wide.

Let’s discuss practical solutions.

The only way a pre-emptive strike will be worth it is somehow getting rid of all the artillery before any of it can fire.

I don’t think it’s possible to do a pre-emptive strike using conventional means on NK without Seoul getting battered.

I honestly think Kim is insane, he’ll feel like he has nothing to lose. Either we solve this diplomatically through China, or there will be war on the Korean peninsula and it won’t be like Iraq or Afghanistan.

In the long run war might be the way to go.

NK needs to be removed as a threat to peace.

We should have been luring Putin and Assad away from their support for Iran. Pushing them further into our opposition is a big mistake—however eager the admin may be to prove that they didn’t collude with Russia on the election.

I am beginning to suspect there is a die-hard constituency for “Syrian Jihad” in D.C. Right after cruise missile hits, they came out calling for 50K U.S. ground troops in Syria, while N. Korean crisis is boiling up. I haven't heard any of them calling for 50K additional ground troops to neutralize N. Korean threat. Somehow for these people, even N. Korean nuclear crisis is a minor problem which should not distract U.S. from Syria.

I think Victor Cha and David Kang are exaggerating greatly.

Certainly NK artillery is a major concern, but those numbers are extreme, not plausible. That sort of thing has been repeated because NK boasts about turning Seoul into a “sea of fire” as they put it. However, the vast majority of NK artillery is NOT the largest kinds (170 mm and 240 mm) that can fire 25+ miles, and all of NK artillery cannot feasibly be sited in the very limited border area immediately opposite Seoul (they would have to denude all the rest of their army of any artillery, and then ALL of their concentrated artillery would be rapidly destroyed by US airpower).

So, yes, the threat of a NK artillery barrage is dangerous for SK civilians, but not at remotely the numbers claimed by those authors. There are more reasonable estimates that the initial SK civilian casualties would be in the low thousands to possibly some tens of thousands. Horrible in any case, but probably nothing like the apocalyptic scenario those authors put forth.

Yes. Reportedly Trump still firmly against that. But I think there will be fallout from the Russia bashing. And the anti-Syria position is really a holdover from Obama’s toppling of any moderate Islamic regimes in the region.
