The most balanced cable news on television is owned, operated and backed by big money fans of the right wing.
There are no "mainstream media" liberals pulling the strings behind OAN, the 3-year-old digital channel available in about 15 million homes. And it's by far one of the most fair news outlets around, serving up a daily diet of ad-free, non-ideological, nonstop news without smirking, snarky anchors or much fanfare.
In terms of balanced content, it leaves Fox News Channel, MSNBC and CNN in the dust.
It's about time someone filled the void. Most cable news now more closely resembles talk radio.
OAN, which stands for One America News Network (there's no second "N" in the logo), is actually beating Fox News sibling Fox Business in the cut-throat ratings race, according to Rentrak, which measures viewers differently than its rival, Nielsen.
But OAN is growing.
Herring says he saw an opening for a mostly straight-news driven channel when CNN started to fill its primetime with reality shows like Anthony Bourdain's travel show, "Parts Unknown."
MSNBC and Fox were even riper for competition because, while they may be ideologically different, their programming is the same.
"We did a lot of research and we found that MSNBC and Fox actually looked remarkably similar," says Herring. "It's just an anchor sharing their opinions for an hour," he said.

Her name is Liz Wheeler, she is great and far better looking than anyone Fox has ever had.
Hope Dish will connect...
I watched some OAN on DirecTV right after it was picked up by the satellite provider. It was a dead ringer for the 1980s CNN. My god, was it boring. LOL
I wish I could watch OAN. We don’t have dish or cable out here and we have very s-l-o-w internet. I do follow them on FB, though! :)
I have no cable and no direct tv. Does OAN broadcast anything to the internet or is it just TV?
Charles Herring, OAN founder, graduated from UC Berkeley.

Thanks, I started a seven day trial of KlowdTV so I’ll look for that documentary. No longer subscribe to cable or satellite so I haven’t watched OAN since it was free on Yip TV, a year or more ago.
“And Ill bet they dont have beautiful girls in miniskirts delivering the news, either.”
You’re right. The female anchors are fine looking, a little plain, and definitely do not have the bimbo factor of FNC. “Just the facts” — no glitz. We’re enjoying it now that DirecTV started to carry it recently.
Hasn’t been on my TV long but I am watching! I like it very much.

Thanks! Now I have (one) news channel in my favorites DTV list. I’m watching it now.
On vacation in Florida, I saw Newsmax TV a couple of years ago. The website is definitely to the right of Fox News. I don’t know if the cable station is still on the air.
How do you stream it on a computer. I have Dish and they don’t carry it.
We have Mediacom which is the worst cable company. I hate Mediacom with a white hot fury I usually reserve for terrorists and child molesters. When will we stop putting up with cable monopolies?
BUMP!
Maybe Dish will add OAN if enough viewers keep asking for it.
I love watching OAN.
I catch the archived shows frequently.
Thanx so much for the heads up on OAN on direct tv 347.
after watching tipping point with liz wheeler on OAN for the very first time tonite, I may not change channels again........until football season kicks off.
Liz may be the sharpest commentator l’ve seen.
She seemed able to talk about any subject with a variety of guests at the highest level of communication (without talking over a guest or changing subjects in the middle of an attempted answer.)
Very easy on the eyes, too.
Bottom line: if FNC was paying greta, getchen, & meagin $3-5mm per year, liz would be a bargin for FNC at twice the money they wasted on meagin!!!
