America has always had its divisions, and Americans have never really been a monolith. Weve always been a nation of many nations. The culture of New England is different from the culture of the Deep South, which is different from the cultures in the West Coast or the Midwest. People living in the cities have different beliefs than people who live in the countryside. Within those areas, there are ethnic, linguistic, and religious enclaves. Its always kind of been like that (probably to a lesser degree in the past), and somehow weve been able to find enough common ground to keep this country together for more than a century.
However, something has changed. You can feel it in the air. Our nation has clearly never been this divided since the Civil War. A lot of people noticed it after the last election, but the truth is that these divisions have been deepening for decades, and theyre just now reaching a very noticeable breaking point. Thats obvious enough when you look at how the left and the right have been going at each other. It used to be a war of words, but its turning into something very dark.
Consider what happened last week in Berkeley after Trump supporters and counter protesters clashed for the third time. 21 people were arrested and 11 were injured (that we know of), six of who had to be taken to the hospital. At least one person was stabbed. The police confiscated confiscated knives, stun guns, and poles. One Trump supporter admitted to being surrounded, pepper sprayed, and beaten with sticks by a mob of protesters.
But wait, thats not the dark part. After these groups clashed, the leftist protesters took to Reddit and admitted that they lost this particular battle ...

Btw slick, no one but you ever suggested or implied that.
One other thing, if ya don’t believe this country is far more divided now as opposed to Reagan, spend 10 seconds and google the hundreds of articles/polls that clearly dispute your jackassery. It took seconds to pull these up.

Charlie Daniels: America Isnt Just DividedIts Fragmented to Pieces
“In divided America, history is weaponized to praise or condemn Trump”
There are hundreds more articles which I can provide your with. Lemme know if you want to see more evidence that you’re completely incorrect.
I now see where the cause of this divisiveness you speak of lies.
I now see where the cause of this divisiveness you speak of lies.
Reagan won the 1980 election 50.7% to Carter's 41% and John Anderson's 6%. That's pretty divided that 47% choose not to vote for a major party candidate against a completely failed President running for re-election.
In 1984 Mondale got 40% of the vote. Think about that In 1980 and 1984 40% of the electorate would vote for a failed President and then turn around and vote against a successful president who turned the economy around.
In 88 Dukakis increases the percentage to 45%.
in 92 Bush 37% loses to Clinton 43% with Perot taking a huge 18%
Clinton Dole, Dole makes it to 40%
Bush 48% Gore 49%
Bush 50% Kerry 48%
McCain 45% Obama 52% Romney 47% Obama 51%
Trump 46% Clinton 47%
The division is 40% democrat 35% republican with 25% of the electorate that will shift to one side or another or just stay home. The battle has always been for those independents, most of them hate controversy and want everyone to just get along. The democrats go for scorched earth strategy because they know the media has their backs and will blame republicans.
But hey if you want to believe that things are so much different today be my guest. If it helps you to keep your focus on the bad guys that's fine by me. If you just realized that the press is working against the American people, welcome aboard (Rush Limbaugh has been pointing this out since the 80s).
Btw, we're talking about a divided country and you give me election results? Once again, see the tag line. You define it el perfecto.
