Was the prior POPE actually so ill he truly had no choice but to abdicate? Does it really matter what transpires at the Vatican? The d’rats don’t believe in GOD in the first place so why should they care whether it be this pope or a total Nincompoop?

It has been suggested that there is ONLY one(1) President at a time. As it should be...as there should be only one Pope at a time. I've read that Pope John Paul II (the Polish pope) was more far more influential than Reagan in taking down the Soviet Union. Likewise, the European Union probably felt it essential to squelch any voices that might someday cause a stir.
