On CNN this morning, Jon Ossoff the Democratic frontrunner in the special election to replace Rep. Tom Price in Georgias sixth congressional district was confronted with an amusing question: How does he feel about the fact that he cant vote for himself today?
This, of course, is because Ossoff is not a resident of the district he hopes to represent in Congress after todays election.
Ossoff quickly explained that he lives down the street from the district so that he can support his girlfriend while she finishes medical school. He noted that he grew up in the district and his family still resides in it, and he said he plans to move back as soon as his girlfriend is done with school.
The fact that Ossoff is unable to vote for himself as polls open across the sixth district today underscores a campaign that has been criticized as far too outsider. The 30-year-old Democrat has managed to raise over $8 million in donations over the course of the two-month race, most of which has come from outside the district.
On the ground, many contend that Ossoffs support doesnt come from the average voter, but is being magnified by the national Democratic party and its activists in order to send a strong message of resistance to President Trump and the GOP.
Today, GA-06 residents get to cast their votes, indicating whether or not Ossoffs lack of residency is an issue for them. But unfortunately for his campaign, Ossoff himself will not.
Donations should not be allowed to come from outside the district...
This is the best they can do? A p—whipped Millenial carpetbagger? Their bench really IS depleted.
Get ready for a wave of intentionally misleading and giddy headlines tonight about Ossoff getting a plurality of the vote.
“Democrat comes out on top in conservative, Southern GOP congressional district!”
How can he run if he’s not resident in the District?
This democrat is practicing corruption before he is possibly elected. If this were a republican I seriously doubt the National Review would find this “amusing”!
Girlfriend? Really?
They’re laughing at the Democrat, not with him.
My understanding is 92% of donations came from outside the District. Much of it from the Hollywood crowd. Samuel Jackson is leading the charge.
So, it’s more important for him to shack up with his girlfriend than to represent the district. hmmm.
Yep...I think donations should come from the people that you represent....
So sorry that the Dems have bottomless pockets. Trying to buy influence in the House, one District at a time. Spend, spend, spend, Leftists! Maybe someday the money will run out......until then we need to spotlight the Dems as the Party of Big Money. Soros commands too much power in this country.
There are presently a number of incumbents in the House and Senate who have or who are taking advantage of this law.
Leni
He has an Anthony Wiener air about him.
North Korean reply: "You no telling us from where get our ronations!"
Oh, he definitely has the air of being a real Weiner about him.
How did it come to pass that there are 11 Republicans splitting the vote in the district? Is that typical?
The only way that happens is if the Dems overturn “Citizens United” and get to regulate campaign finance. I don’t think we’d like the result of that very well.
IMO, if a person can’t vote for someone from another district, why should he be allowed to send them money donations???
