Really? We were too busy doing out happy dance here at the Angius house. Will never forget election night for as long as I live. I have to say that it was the New York Times election website that called it exactly and called it early. The Times called it before FOX News gave him most of the midwest. IT was AHMAZING!
It was great watching the results there. No commentary or talking heads, just data flashing at you. It was a rich experience too because you could explore stuff on your own by drilling down to see details on the results in particular states and counties.
Actually I alternated between the NYT site and reading the running Twitter commentary of Bill Mitchell, who was fending off Hillary supporters telling him how stupid he was for predicting a big Trump victory.
It was nail biter until the moment when Florida seemed safely in the Trump column. Then, suddenly the cold and calculating NYT robot reversed direction and the graphs started moving dramatically in Trump's favor. It was a beauty to behold: for 30 minutes there, you watched The Movement rise up like a mountain.
Then the weight of the moment hit you: Deplorables from all corners of America were rising up to take back their country! Wow, God bless the American voter.
I don't say that because of the outcome but because they appeared to go about it in a very scientific way. They had algorithms that projected unreported precincts with a very high degree of accuracy so early in the evening, you could see that states like WI, MI, and PA were trending Trump's way. They effectively had the race called for Trump by 9:30PM when the other news outlets hedged for hours and hours before finally making their calls.
Watching that NYT needle move rapidly and inexorably in Trump's direction was the highlight of my evening.
