Looks like ‘slap jacks’ are OK. They are made out of leather (with a little lead shot in the end).

I have my “Cleveland Cane.” Made out of EMT, Electrical Metallic Tubing. Like heavy duty conduit, but much thicker-walled. Bent it at a local machine shop that has a tubing bender. Shoved a cork up the end and poured in lead shot mixed with Gorilla Glue. Painted it dark brown and put a cane tip on it. A good bone crusher!
