Another chapter from Nassim Nicholas Taleb's Skin in the Game, just in time for Easter!

Key point: “I appeal to you therefore brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.” [Romans 12:1]

" once you fast, you feel entitled to celebrate Easter; it is like the exhilaration of fresh water when one is thirsty. You’ve paid a price."

Jesus paid the price on the Cross. Having to fast to feel entitled is saying that I have to do something to help myself gain salvation. Just come as you and accept Him as Savior without any additional works to be saved or "feel entitled to celebrate Easter".

It has wine representing blood, which, at the close of the ceremony flushed in the piscina (the drain).

It's important not to believe everything you read on the Internet.

It sounds like Taleb is edging his way toward faith.

Taleb is talking about something interesting here. Among the mideastern tribes child sacrifice was a common element to worship of the gods. This in part may explain why, when God told Abraham to sacrifice his son, he didn’t refuse. Most modern people would simply say, no, that can’t be God... but in Abraham’s time human sacrifice was common.

But in this moment God explicitly rejected the sacrifice of humans on the altar. And this set the Abrahamites apart from the surrounding tribes from that moment forward.

I don’t remember God’s putting Nick Taleb in charge of who is “entitled” to worship. Got a Scripture cite for that?
