President Donald Trump has not given up on the holy grail of repealing Obamacare, and on Wednesday he revealed his next move, threatening to use health insurance subsidies as a weapon to get Democrats to negotiate on reform.
Trump said his administration may not have the legal authority to make cost-sharing reduction payments, in an interview with the Wall Street Journal. So-called CSR subsidies reduce out-of-pocket costs for low-income Affordable Care Act enrollees, but Republicans in Congress sued the Obama administration, saying they expenditures were not authorized under the ACA.
The president is clearly aware of the impact it would have to stop making CSR payments. After urging congressional leaders to pull the vote on the GOP health reform bill last month, Trump exclaimed that the best thing for Republicans is to "let Obamacare explode."

Here’s hoping he does.
It’s a 10th Amendment thing.
BOOM!!!
Heres hoping he does.
Its a 10th Amendment thing.
LOL. Surest way for GOP to lose Congress in 2018 is cutting these subsidies. Not going to happen.
Obamacare cannot survive unless everyone is forced to be on it.
Create the free market alternative that Ann Coulter suggested, and allow national programs like the co-op featured on Sean Hannity’s show ( health care cost: $50 a month) and Obamacare will die
Pres. Trump should remake his stand for repeal of 0-care. Go on numerous public appearances encouraging people to call and write their RINO congress critters repeatedly to do what they promised.
He should veto any bill falling short.
I agree.
100%

By “involuntary”, I mean cities not paying pensions, simply because they have no money to. And everything else that happens when an economy utterly collapses.
The only positive thing is that perhaps the Phoenix will rise from the ashes a little stronger. But first there will be the events that cause those ashes.
It becomes more obvious to me every year. Now every month. And it is because we are reaching that day of reckoning at exponentially increasing speed.
Actually, the surest way is to not repeal Obamacare.
As for the rest, ALL unlawful federal programs should be nixed along with the taxes to support them. People’s circumstances, no matter how dire, are not amendments. Screw everyone.
President Trump shows his cunningness. Looks like we can add master manipulator to the list of his proficiencies.
Both the mandate AND the subsidies should be dangled in front of the dems’ noses.
“Surest way for GOP to lose Congress in 2018 is cutting these subsidies.”
Surest way for GOP to lose Congress in 2018 is to fully fund Obamacare.
The subsidies are not paid for. All they have to do is sit on their hands.
Simply take away Congress’ exemption! And that’s not negotiable!
Why is he threatening it? Why hasn’t he already done it?
I think I am willing to go along so that these people can repeal that abortion of a law that allows freedom of insurance choice for those that are able and also at the same time cover those who are unable to get some kind of basic care.
There was some Democrat complaint of ‘people’ who somehow couldn’t be covered by Medicaid (a dubious claim) and they quoted their inflated numbers often. Okay. We should have just worked something out for those dubious numbers and left everyone else alone. We didn’t need to tax and impede the sh!t out of everyone else to do it. We’d have been better off if we’d have just gave it to them the shut them up.
Yep, I want to see how many Freedom Caucus members will vote for Obamacare subsidies after killing the repeal.
Here’s to hoping that the Democrats aren’t vile enough to take him up on cutting the subsidies for those who have been forced into the exchange. The problem for voters is the bizarre cost for inferior coverage. Aggravate that, and pay the price politically. Argue fine points of constitutionality all you want, if the problems of cost and coverage are not solved, there will be a political price paid.
Who believes CNBC?
It will be highly effective put he will be blamed for hurting the poor, etc.
