United passenger dragged off flight identified as doctor with criminal past

The United Airlines passenger dragged off a flight was a doctor who said he was trying to get home to his patients.

The Louisville Courier-Journal says Dr. David Dao is a Vietnamese-American immigrant who specializes in pulmonary disease in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. On Sunday, he was one of four United Express Flight 3411 passengers "randomly selected" to be removed from an overbooked plane in Chicago bound for Louisville, 40 miles outside of Elizabethtown.

If he provided proper ID/credentials to the airline people and they still booted him,then they have a REAL problem.Watch his patients claim harm because they didn’t get treatment.

Airlines don’t need to be justified. The only issue that occurred was the amount of force needed to remove the passenger from the airplane by a police officer.

So you’re saying it’s ok for an airline to arbitrarily eject you after you’ve been checked, boarded and seated?

Yup, anything else is just smoke-screening. It was airport rent-a-cops from what I understand, by the way.

Maybe their special privileges should be removed and their status be equalized with everyone else’s. In any case, United stock is tanking. As it should. Any possible legal case to financially damage them should be pursued by the passenger and the three tyrannical thugs ought to be prosecuted for whatever can be nailed into their hides.

Who was the Captain of the plane?

What does he/she have to say about this?

The Captain is the boss of the plane, not a ticket agent or security person.

Why is no one talking about the Captain?

It would be very interesting to know, and if I were his lawyer, I would try to find out, just exactly HOW he was selected for ejecting!!

Who do you think contacted security? They can’t remove a person from the plane without consent from the pilot.

I heard it was a random computer selection. If it were a matter of “Let’s rough up the Asian-looking guy” then United has a really big problem.

On another thread someone was claiming airlines will kick off non-valuable (non-frequent flier) passengers who they think will cause the least trouble, e.g., Asians. Another poster said all who were kicked off were non-white.

If any of this is true, I hope those folks who were kicked off end up owning United Airlines.

One person in a taxi vs. a plane full of people witnessing a ticketed passenger board and get hauled off by force, all while being filmed and virally shared in real time.

I heard it was based on algorithms which took into account cost of ticket, when it was purchased etc. The implication was last minute bargain shoppers were the first to go.

I got booted once while flying standby as the guest of my-then flight attendant girlfriend. They got my name wrong but I suspected they were calling for me so I volunteered and sure enough, it was me. I wasn’t happy about it but obeyed. A whole group of travelers showed up late at the last minute and bumped me off, which cost me a day or two of getting home. Fortunately, I was in no dire need to be home, and did get to spend a couple extra nights with my smokin hot FA GF.

So not all was lost

It is now being reported that the flight was NOT overbooked. Paid passengers simply had to allow United employees take their seats.

This makes the situation much worse, from an optics perspective.

Even if it were legal, it’s still a huge problem for United.
According to it’s own rules, United is supposed to “bump” passengers *before* they board.
