He really is “a neatly dressed elderly Asian male who got bloodied & concussed by stormtroopers” when he tried to explain he needed to fly because he had patients waiting. Does he now deserve to be further brutalized by the media for your pleasure?
In the end the plane took off several hours late after the blood was cleaned with he & his wife on board...suggests there were other alternatives for the airline after all. Let’s spend our interest exposing the employees responsible for the incident and the policy setters.
Let's say the passenger was lying. That's not the issue. The issue is that he didn't want to give up the seat he paid for. And in this situation? C'mon. A chartered small plane or a rental car would've gotten the United crew the 298 miles to Louisville without a problem.
I've been thinking about the "overbooked" issue. Why? The old standby process worked just fine and the airlines could make some profit from filling seats of no shows. But why should the airline overbook? If that seat was sold, the airline is making its profit even if the passenger doesn't show up. Just don't allow any refunds for no-shows and don't allow cancellations.
The policy is already clear, you are not guaranteed a seat on a plane, even if you are a doctor. You also have to follow instructions from the crew. If you don’t, security is called and if you again don’t follow orders, then you get hauled off the plane. Not sure what the controversy is.
using the same logic...
why is it important that he is neatly dressed or an elderly Asian male ? and why is his business more important than everyone else who is on the plane ?
He sounds like he has a real lack of morals in his past, but that is NOTHING TO DO with what happened to him. United at fault. When you treat passengers horribly, some of them wont be choir boys.
