With the USS Carl Vinson carrier group steaming toward the Korean peninsula for what some speculate may be to launch a "decapitation" strike on the Kim Jong-Un regime, on Tuesday North Korean state media threatened the US with a nuclear attack at any sign of a U.S. pre-emptive strike, and warned it is ready for "war" as Washington tightened the screws on the nuclear-armed state.

North Korea's official Rodong Sinmun newspaper said the country was prepared to respond to any aggression by the United States. "Our revolutionary strong army is keenly watching every move by enemy elements with our nuclear sight focused on the U.S. invasionary bases not only in South Korea and the Pacific operation theatre but also in the U.S. mainland," it said.
The North's foreign ministry, in a statement carried by its KCNA news agency, said the U.S. navy strike group's approach showed America's "reckless moves for invading had reached a serious phase".
"We never beg for peace but we will take the toughest counteraction against the provocateurs in order to defend ourselves by powerful force of arms and keep to the road chosen by ourselves," an unidentified ministry spokesman said.
Tensions escalated sharply over the past week on the Korean peninsula with talk of imminent military action by the United States gaining traction following its strikes last week against Syria and amid concerns the reclusive North may soon conduct a sixth nuclear test.

The ocean is very, very large. They would need no flag, nor any berth or anchorage. They just put on 20 or 25 knots, steam into a harbor, and go high order.
Gonna need more than a couple destroyers to do that job.
I don’t know if it’s even possible but I would think it would take a lot of US assets to do the job all in one strike.
My thoughts would be long range, high altitude bombers to attempt to take out their air defense facilities first then the fighter bombers to focus on the specific ground targets such as military bases, depots, airfields. As far as any attempts by their air force to engage ours, they have absolutely nothing that even comes close to our fighters. Most of their planes would be considered "classic cars" from the 60's and some left over from the 50's.......
Lots of people don't realize that there are global trade sanctions against NK with food being the only allowed item. Their people are starving since the govt. cares nothing about the them and instead are using most of the foods to feed the military.
If a war were to break out, all food imports would cease, the people would be the first to suffer extreme starvation with the military close behind.
Their primary source for oil is China and if China is on board with the U.S., such fuel would cease and their military apparatus would run out of gas.
wouldn’t the fallout go the direction of the wind?
I’m not much for cruel and unusual punishment. But if the North Koreans strung up the fat kid like the Italians did Mussolini, I won’t lose sleep over it. And that would be true justice, for his own people to take him out.
Wouldn’t do as much harm to NK, as it would to NK’s neighbors.
Ding dong the witch is dead!
Probably if they got sufficient concessions, such as recognition of the islands they built.
I see....
and you believe we don’t track shipping?
It’s the 200 miles around the islands that is the issue.
Right, but the islands are the fig leaf to their claim on those 200 miles.
Yep. I don’t think there’s a way to renounce the 200 mile territorial waters.
Oh, the mythical Chinese Generals. I think they play the Harlem Globetrotters every game, don’t they?
You doubt Trump’s Will, who in their right mind would do that?
Of course, China is going to provide a maniac with bombs. China may be many things but stupid is not one of them.
They produce slaves and even rent them out to other countries. Like good Stalinists they starve and work to death their population. Military equipment gets most of the GNP.
And you believe that? Can you spell C.R.A.P.?
“And you believe that? Can you spell C.R.A.P.?”
It’s always good to include a brief quotation so that people know what you’re talking about. It seems you wish to insult me for something I’ve said, but I have no way of knowing which of my remarks you’re trying to slam.
If you are referring to Washington’s Farewell Address, it has been terribly misinterpreted. It is primarily concerned about the danger of secession not as a permanent admonition against foreign involvement.
That warning was directed to those wanting to join the French against the British for two reasons. First we had a military that was pitifully weak, so weak even the Indians were able to slaughter one of our armies not all that long before. Two the greater danger was that joining one side in the war would stimulate the forces in the South who already were threatening secession. This is what all the authors of the Address feared, first Madison, then Hamilton then Washington produced the document.
You think an unknown ship would be allowed to get close to our shores. They are all identified long before getting close to our shores.
