Real US factory jobs lost so we can export USDA beef?

Please read (I have been involved with this industry for over 20 years):

Recently the ITC found that China has been subsidizing their medium truck tyre exports to the USA between 20-70% (depending on the factory).

One month ago the ITC announced their judgement: NO TARIFF.

Everyone was EXPECTING a very large tariff, as the same court ruled the year before in favor of tariffs on Chinese passenger tires (with similar subsidies).

So there was precedent.

Interestingly, 3 days prior to the vote, one judge recused himself from the case. They ended up 1 vote short for the tariff.

The verdict stated: Yes, the Chinese are clearly dumping product, but US manufactures are still making a good profit...so no damages are occurring.

See verdict here:

https://www.usitc.gov/investigations/701731/2016/truck_and_bus_tires_china/preliminary.htm

Ironically most USA manufactures currently have factories in China (like Cooper) and the USA.

So I am not sure how much they argued in favor of tariffs on some of their own product lines (I am guessing they actually did not want the tariff).

REAL FACTORY JOBS NOW LOST: Tell the 800+ retreading factories in the USA there are no damages.

Retreading is / was still very popular for fleet trucks (i.e. 18 wheelers). Truckers have historically retreaded their tyres to maximize the tires life and decrease tire costs). Also saves about 22 gallons of oil for every tire that is retreaded.

Now truckers just buy cheap Chinese brands that do not last as long, use questionable raw materials, and add significantly to our landfill. They are disposable.

These retreading factories (mostly mom and pop shops) are closing at record rates and cutting workers /hours.

So much for saving factory jobs.

But hell, USDA beef going to China will really help local farmers (or is that global farmers).

See the article below for a review of the court case.

If the Chinese are “dumping” tires here, that means I get to buy them for less. Good! Lots more people buy tires than work for tire manufacturers.

Agribusiness dwarfs the tire business in this country.
You could pretty much see who was going to win this one.

Raise the price of beef sky high I would expect. I read somewhere that the price of pecans has gone way up because of Chinese consumption. I guess there’s just so many pecan trees.

I suppose if there is any respect for your trademarked Free Traitor you are the only one legally calling anybody that. Have you given permission for anyone else to use it?

There is nothing traitorous about not using government force to make others pay for your job or fund your social security. There is nothing traitorous about allowing people to spend their money as they see fit.

Ya, tires is a very small industry.

I suppose you walk everywhere and haven’t seen how many vehicles are on the road lately.

The irony is that there are over 800 retreading facilities. Almost all are privately owned, mom and pop shops.

Furthermore, dumping is illegal. Especially when the factory gets up to 70% subsidy.

Guess how China subsidizes these tyres? They use the interest they make on our debt, to pay the factories.

But with your logic, I can see why everything is going global now.

There is nothing in the US Constitution that protects international trade. Actually the opposite is true.

It is clear that offshoring industrial prosecution has been a nightmare for the middle class of America. Only traitor at this point would argue otherwise.

The USA no longer makes consumer electronics, clothes, shoes, and now tires. We are world power in name only.

Ah, they were found to be dumping product here (the Chinese gov. subsidizes each tire up to 70%).

That is illegal (not just in the USA..but every country). And it is not free trade.

It’s not free market when the Chinese gov. pays (using the interest they get from US debt) the factory for our tires.

It bankrupts the USA market and is unfair trade practice.

Wow, it’s no wonder China is kicking our butts, americans are idiots.

Yes, but international law says dumping is illegal and unfair trade practice.

Ironically Malaysia, most Central American countries, S. Korea and a host of others have recently passed tariffs against Chinese Tire dumping. But not the good ol USA. nope, we think free trade is great when the chinese gov uses the interest on our debt to give us free goods...which are not really free.

They are obviously much smarter than us.

According to Free Traitors™, there is no such thing as bad or unfair trade. The more factories close in the USA the more Free Traitors™ celebrate. They are evil people.

Brillant, let’s follow Malaysia’s lead and take our cues from international law.

So getting tires at 70% off is a bad thing? That is more money to spend on something else or to invest in something else. It also hurts the Chinese government which according to many here is a good thing.
