The outdoor jail that was Mr. Arpaio’s marquee undertaking was a travesty. Ostensibly established to save money and deter criminals, who presumably would want to avoid sweltering in desert heat, it failed on both counts. In fact, closing the encampment will save taxpayers some $4.5 million annually. And in a recent study, the inmates there said they preferred the facility, the heat notwithstanding, to the cramped cells in conventional jails.
In announcing that the encampment would be closed, after 24 years, Mr. Arpaio’s successor, Paul Penzone, a Democrat, said, “Starting today, the circus ends, and the tents come down.”
Mr. Arpaio’s MO was humiliation and intimidation. Furious at the federal lawsuit targeting him, he struck back at President Barack Obama, becoming one of the leading voices of the “birther” movement and deploying a team of “investigators” to Hawaii with the intent of proving that the president’s birth certificate was somehow concocted. That failed.
Sensing the political advantage in harassing immigrants, he launched sweeps in Hispanic neighborhoods, making his office and the deputies who worked for him agents for racial profiling. The sweeps continued for more than a year after a federal judge ordered them halted, as Mr. Arpaio expressed his contempt for the judge’s authority.
In the end, Mr. Arpaio was passed over for various prominent jobs for which he was said to have been a candidate in the Trump administration. Finally, it is the sheriff who has been humiliated, and rightly so.

It appears to me that it is the WaPo Editorial Board's MO that is humiliation and intimidation towards the sheriff who is innocent until proved guilty in his pending case, over which the Board is obviously presuming guilt.
I have followed the events described in the above paragraph closely and the WaPo Editorial Board has failed to follow minimal journalistic standards in describing just how Sheriff Arpaio came to be involved in the "birther" investigation. He did NOT initiate it. It was brought to him by concerned citizens and was NOT funded by taxpayer money. WaPo's own Editorial Board member, Moranis, has found extensive falsehoods in Obama's biographical narrative. Sheriff Arpaio has claimed to have found forensic evidence that Obama's BC was forged that has been confirmed by a top EU crime laboratory, but WaPo has not lifted a finger to investigate relying on potentially corrupt Hawaii official representations that Obama's BC in their vault is authentic. How many US state governors are in prison for corruption? Could politicians in Hawaii have protected a forged BC in their Hawaii vault to save Obama's presidency?

Trump needs to pardon Joe. He was a very early and steadfast supporter of Trump and this is a politically motivated prosecution pure and simple.
Joe is 84 years old. After eight years of legal and political assault by the United States Government and the news media here and around the world, he was unable to extend his 24 year stint as sheriff of Maricopa County.
How is that being “cut down to size”?
