Trump defends decision not to hit runway on Syrian airbase

By ERIN DOOLEY Apr 8, 2017, 5:14 PM ET

Following reports that two Syrian jets took off from the airfield hit by U.S. missiles Thursday night, President Trump defended his decision not to strike the runway.

"The reason you don't generally hit runways is that they are easy and inexpensive to quickly fix (fill in and top)!" the commander-in-chief tweeted.

According to one U.S. official, initial assessments indicate that up to 20 Syrian aircraft were destroyed after the U.S. hit Syria's al Shayrat airbase with more than 50 Tomahawk cruise missiles Thursday. However, the runway -- as well as storage areas suspected to contain chemical weapons -- remained untouched.

“Not much bang for the American buck.”

Don’t forget, the MSM would have torched Trump for not doing anything. He turned that around on them quickly...48 hours. Remember, whether we like it or not, EVERYTHING is political.

Combined with the confirmation of his SC judge, President Trump had a week that Obama could only have dreamed of. He earned a lot of political capital this week. Win, Win!!

George Bush: I’m not going to fire a $2 million missile at a $10 empty tent and hit a camel in the butt.

PR-inspired retaliation at sandlots in the Mid-east seem to be a concern for every President now.

As someone pointed out here, next time go in the the hanger doors on fortified hangers.

A lot depends on what the actual goal is.

BTW..I read yesterday that the cost of the version of Tomahawk that was used is down to $250,000. They probably couldn’t wait to use them so they could get the latest and greatest!!"

It seems people keep throwing around a rather high ball number unit cost (1.4million). They may have gotten it from Wiki. I don't know.

Here is the US Navy reference:

TOMAHAWK CRUISE MISSILE (Unit Cost: Approximately $569,000).

If it is down to a quarter million, the better.

Those Seabees may have been part of the Destroyers For Bases and Lend-Lease programs that preceded our entry into the war. It was FDR’s way of ramping up our military when Congress was still isolationist in 1940 & 1941

“They may have gotten it from Wiki.”

Yup....Manufacturer General Dynamics (initially)
Raytheon/McDonnell Douglas
Unit cost $1.87M(FY2017)[1] (Block IV)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomahawk_(missile)

Didn’t know this:
BGM-109A Tomahawk Land Attack Missile – Nuclear (TLAM-N) with a W80 thermonuclear weapon. Retired from service sometime between 2010 and 2013.[2]

If Hitlery Rosenberg Clinton was President, she would've carpet bombed...

After the Hillary Huma rumors, I get the creepies when I hear the words Hillary and carpet in the same sentence.

Interesting, so my Dad wasn’t imagining things after the event. The US Navy was preparing bases well before Pearl Harbor.

The bases you see listed in the Destroyers For Bases 1940 agreement are in Canada and the Caribbean, but I’d bet that your dad saw something that was off the books. FDR was trying to help the UK all that he could under the limitations that Congress had on our involvement.

My question is why did he not hit the storage facilities that would have contained the chemicals bombs?

“And now, we’re going to look to “taking care of business” in North Korea, which does directly affect us and a several good allies.”

Chew gum = taking care of North Korea
Walk = talking care of Syria

Silly headline. Generals formed the plan...and Trump authorized it. Sheesh.
