Went to many shows back in the day. Once upon a time they used to have shows in the infield of Churchill Downs. Long Run Pony Club hosted it. We stabled in the same stables for the racers. A special place.
Man, what memories. Almost did a Christopher Reeves there on the jumper course. Went into a in-and-out combination wrong and the horse said nope in the middle. Went flying over his ears. Landed on my head. Rubbing the back of my neck, I think I popped a vertebrae back into place walking back to the stable. That’s what it felt like. You’re invincible at that age, you know.
Yea, my whole spine is messed up. Football didn’t help either.
Man, I’m feeling old.
At least you had fun and have those great memories.
Just got back from lunch with a man who won a couple silver medals in eventing back in the day. He’s one of the lucky ones...not hobbling around - but my daughter definitely has her problems including a recent issue with fractured ribs. I asked her what happened and she said “the horse went right and I went left”.
I wish she’d take up dressage but so far she won’t.
