Relax.
We broke some of Assad’s expensive toys; we aren’t invading his country to march on Damascus and take him down.
The strike was a figurative rap on the knuckles; a strong warning to lay off the chem weapons, and leave civilians out of the conflict. It was IN NO WAY a signal that the U.S. intends to depose Assad.
Hell, we didn’t even disable the runway at the base we hit. If we’d had in mind to truly cripple Assad the runways over there would look like the craters of the Moon right now.
Lotta jaw-jackin’ and political doomcasting going on right now & I’d encourage a less newscast-y reactive, more thoughtful and responsive posture. God knows we don’t need more people channeling Chicken Little.
Well the good news is that if this mission really did destroy the chemical weapons, the rebels can’t get their filthy hands on them, neither.
How is that decided?
Is the Ummah innocent?
And to do it while one of our adversaries China was visiting for dinner
Actually Tillerson said Assad must step down.
I agree many are doing too much hand wringing, but this was a significant act.
