Jerry Brown’s 12-Cent Gas Tax Passes Legislature on Deadline
Breitbart ^ | April 7, 2017 | Joel B. Pollak

Both houses of the California legislature passed a 12-cent gasoline tax hike on Thursday, meeting Governor Jerry Brown’s deadline to provide an estimated $52 billion in new revenues, ostensibly for transportation infrastructure. The bill, which also raises Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) fees, barely reached the two-thirds majority needed to raise taxes in both the State Assembly and the State Senate. Passage marks a huge political victory for Gov. Brown, who is in his fourth and final term as governor. The political consequences for legislators, however, have yet to be seen, as voters have not yet felt the pinch of a tax hike that, critics say, will hit rural and working-class Californians hardest.

It was 47.5 I think so 59.5 but don’t forget the sales tax. Which runs 7.5 so around 67 cents per gallon. Then the federal is 18 I think. So 85-86 cents tax per gallon. I think that’s about right.

I can almost agree with the
“no smoking and driving”
law. I spent a week in
Newport Beach for a computer
class, and while stopped at
an intersection heading to class I glanced down at median. The cigarette butts
were a foot high for a good
30 yards.

Their state senate recently voted to make Kaliforny a “sanctuary state”. Yet nothing that I read here or get from other sources mention any opposition to what’s going on there. Because I don’t it wouldn’t surprise me none. I get the feeling this state is about ready to explode

I love bringing that up at a market... Invariably someone will deny it, usually the cashier, and I offer them a calculator so they can check for themselves.

1 penny per can, half penny for plastic.. 12 cents per gallon makes sure all counties in California gain an extra penny in sales taxes.

Can't wait for the teachers to demand 1/3rd of the fees and new gas taxes for themselves.

He's been here about 20 years, I don't think he fits your template.

Yeah, that is on the cusp of the start of the CA public employees "gold rush".

It's also out of character to move to Hicksville, Missouri for retirement.

My brother-in-law brought some property in rural Missouri, and I looked up the area.

Much of the state looks like my kind of place, once you get into the sticks. 😀

I don't know if you ever seen the pension stories, but if you haven't, look them up.

It'll blow your hair back. 6 figure retirements in their early 50s - more money than I ever made working full time in a skilled occupation.
