Thank you, Mr Trump! First images of damage at Assad's burnt-out airbase emerge as tearful Syrians

Complete Headline: Thank you, Mr Trump! First images of damage at Assad’s burnt-out airbase emerge as tearful Syrians cheer US missile raid

These are the first images of the carnage caused by Donald Trump's Tomahawk barrage on al-Assad's badly damaged airbase as Syrians thanked the President for the raid.

US missiles appear to have shattered hangars, destroyed at least nine Syrian jets, weapons and a fuel store, as well as leaving left giant craters in the runway at al-Shayrat military airfield near Homs.

Its radar system and surface-to-air missile defences were also damaged - but crucially the laser-guided missiles avoided the Sarin stores there.

” he told the Russians”

I am no military strategist, but I think that was a good move.

Give the Russians a chance to get out of there; no reason to provoke a war with Russia. Just take out the facilities with the least cost to human life.

“IMHO: It’s what Eisenhower would have done. Ike was truly a peace monger.”

I agree. Just take out facilities, without killing human beings.

I remember when we were talking about the neutron bomb. It would be amazing if we could develop a weapon that just targeted substances like cement, bricks, steel, etc., but spared organic substances like human bodies. That would truly be amazing.

I am far from convinced that there was a chemical weapons attack or if there was one, that Assad launched it.

That being said, I am also far from convinced that this attack on an air base will have any long-term impact on the Assad government.

Therefore this is a non-event and unless somebody retaliates, it means nothing.

As to it signalling U.S. strength to China and North Korea, that was already in place on January 20th and this changes nothing. Why else would North Korea not launch nukes at various targets? Everyone knows they want to, they’re just afraid of being wiped off the face of the earth. Which they would be, no matter how weak or strong our position in Syria appears. So what’s the point of this? Somebody makes money replacing those 59 cruise missiles. That’s the only real point.

He had a running argument with Einstein over relativity vs quantum physics. It's really quite interesting but that reference is probably about Einstein saying, about quantum physics, that God would never have such a chaotic world.

Bohr was Jewish but felt that Einstein was being irrational since, quantum though chaotic, was something that was observable and must somehow be explained.

The string theory is supposed to get relativity and quantum to be compatible but I'll be damned if I understand it.

I’m sorry, “who” had a running argument with Einstein? Surely not Hitler about physics.

But ISIS likes the attack on Syria. It’s what they want.

I think you hit the nail right on the head. Still, nothing changes, because we are there on the neocon’s behalf. It’s been that way since the Bush years.

Because he feared retaliation. Hitler was also a gas casualty in WWI so maybe that influenced him. I don’t think it was because Hitler was less Eeeeevil than Assad. What a ridiculous introduction of Hitler into a debate. Truly a classic.

We have a new neocon meme: Assad worse than Hitler.

While it sends a message to Syria, I suspect the strike was timed for maximum inpact on North Korea and China. Would have given anything to have had my old seat at the table in a certain numbered air force command post the last 48 hours! The down side of retirement!

Washington’s farewell address was more concerned about the dangers of secession not the danger of foreign involvements per se. A weak nation just barely begun operates under different set of constraints than one which is the most powerful in the world.

His remarks were directed at the Democrat-Republicans attempt to drag the US into a war on the side of the fanatical French Revolution. He knew that would only produce a disaster having much experience with the most powerful force in the world and that a rematch was the least desirable of alternatives.

“If there is no moral qualms about chemical weapons, why did even Hitler shun their use in WWII?”

Zyklon B, sport.

I don’t think assad is worse than Hitler, but I do think he would have allied himself with him if he were the Syrian dictator when Hitler was alive.

Yeah, but never against the Russians or the Americans. He feared the consequences. He hid as well as he could his use of chemical weapons against the Jews. He didn’t brazenly use it like Assad. Surely you know that, sport?

I seem to recall the buzz when Reagan sent troops to Lebanon, only to have them killed en masse in the bombing of their barracks.

I pray for our men and women there.

Syria would love to see us in there.

It’s good to have a president who makes it clear on two counts.

1. He brings God into the game, and says He’s on our side
2. He is unashamedly speaking up for Western values.

Trump is the man with the potential to bring peace through out the world.

“Looks to me like very little real damage.”

Seriously?

Put yourself in their shoes. You wake up from your barracks hiding under your bed, then the next morning you assess the carnage to find that the someone surgically took out every building and plane in a few sectors of your airport.

It’s like a big hand of God came down, and erased things that were standing the day before.

Trump and take out anyone anywhere at anytime. That what was shown. The fact that they limited the damage, and in fact told them to run for cover a head of time, tells much about the man.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Russians were told where to stand, so they could watch.

Contrast their carpet bombing in Syria.

Every tin pot leader fears or his life now.

BTW... I hear that Obama knew about this gas weapons dump there, and did nothing?

The Germans didn’t use chemical weapons because they didn’t want chemical weapons used against them. The Wehrmacht was still using horses for transport and chemical weapons would have disrupted their logistics.

TN Eagle Forum sent email of the gas victims this morning most were children, it reminded me of hitler's after math of his gas chambers the way they were laid side by side.

President Trump was well with in his Presidential as CIC War Powers Act rights to order this strike, he had not declared a war, didn't need congress's approval even if he had he had 90 days to seek it, as long as he maintains it's a police action, he doesn't have to. Korea was a Police Action. Though we call it a war. You can't be a Navy wife 20 years without learning some of that. Wilson used it for Korea. So have others. Grenada was not a war it was to short to be one it was a rescue mission. Bay of Pigs was not a war either. Only reason the left is in an uproar is because President Trump is a Republican. They will fight him tooth and nail all 4-8 yrs. And Pence too if he follows President Trump into office. Look for a tumultuous 4-16 yrs of these idiots.

“building a wall” and “get our tax cut” are not the only important jobs of the federal government.

We have to have a good foreign policy. Executive needs to administer it.
