Don't know if it makes you feel better, but WH says the attack is retaliation for the gas attack, the missile strike is not "regime change," it is retaliation and a painful lesson to not gas people. Apparantly we have intelligence that the gas is stashed where the missiles were directed.

Other than that, too early to tell what the fallout will be, and I'm not well enough informed to hazard a guess how the strike will play out with Russia and other powerful players.

My seat of the pants is that this is not the start of WWIII. It's credible that the strike is nothing but retaliatory, and if accepted as such, is not a threat to Russian interests of orderly regime change in Syria after the terrorists are more or less dispatched.

As I understand it, Trump said goodnight to the Chinese PM and moments later the strikes were launched. If so, that is as matter-of-fact as it gets.

Has a President ever had a visiting head of state just before he launched a military strike, I wonder?

Hope this somehow has a positive effects on relationship with Chinese
