Way too much government at every level. It has strangled any attempts at improving infrastructure and our highways, bridges and airports are falling apart because of it. Good luck to President Trump as he tackles this regulation monster.

Send some Federal funding for roads in Alaska but with armed guards lest the fat cat cronies mismanagement of construction occurs, move a few flaggers around, only work during weekends and bad weather to pad the bill, take three years to do a 90 day project.

That graphic President Trump displayed showed why he is a successful businessman and the government is a leech on the rest of us.

Talk about a picture worth of a thousand words.

For example, do you really need to spend a few million and a couple of years on an environmental impact report, when all you are doing is widening an existing road? Really?

Environmental impact reports are in too many cases a make-work that simply delays the inevitable and adds to the cost, for no particular purpose.

There is a need for such analysis, but there is also a need for sanity.

Teach the government “on time and under budget”. No EXTENSIONS allowed except natural disaster and if you’re late, you get a penalty. It’s about contracts and union ethics.

I work for an engineering company. Around 1996, the state DOT had our company design a new highway.

Then the plans sat in the drawer...

...until 2015. Then the DOT had us revise the plans to meet new standards, and to accommodate some of the housing developments that had been built near the route in the previous 20 years.

The plans are back in the drawer, we’ve been told for at least 10 years. At that time, there will probably be even newer standards to re-design to, and more housing to accommodate.

Most people have no idea how wasteful government can be on large infrastructure projects...I mean most know its wasteful, but would never guess how bad it really is.

You can get 10 years into a project and then they vote and turn it down, then use all your information to give it to a crony to do.

Same with new factories- If you create a new product and become successful, the government gives tax ‘incentives’ to your competitor to open up a factory doing the same thing.

You’ve done all the hard work (creating a company out of nothing) the government just has to give a crony a ‘tax incentive’ to start up.

The government officials brag about how THEY ‘created jobs’ with the new company.

Then he gets to undercut your price because you don’t have the tax breaks, then you go out of business and he hires your people and buys your assets at bargain basement prices...

The government official brags about how they ‘saved’ those jobs.

So a government crony get very rich off of your idea and hard work while the government helps him put you out of business.

This is excellent. Trump needs to show the same kind of chart regarding getting drugs approved in a town hall about bringing down the cost of healthcare.
