The pursuit of Trump may have caught the Obama White House
The Washington Post ^ | April 4, 2017 | By Ed Rogers

It is said that Watergate wasn’t about the crime, but about the coverup. Well, at least in the Watergate scandal, there was a proper crime — specifically, the break-in and wiretapping. The frenzy has created a scandal without perpetrators or a crime. There is a sense that Washington is on the brink, but no one can say on the brink of what.

Rice has a history of a strained relationship with the truth, and for a national security adviser, she has, at times, flown close to the partisan political flame. So, what was going on? Why did she do it? And with whom, in the government and the media, did she share the information?

Multiple senators are now demanding her testimony. There could have been crimes committed and a real scandal could develop, so you can bet the full story will be slow to emerge. It appears that Rice has issued the standard denials. And her defenders on Capitol Hill and in the media will do all they can to distract and demand that there is nothing to see here. Democrats and their media allies will continue to make baseless allegations, hoping that the Russia investigations will somehow deliver for them and become this president’s Watergate.

The result so far? Competing outrage. Just as Democrats are pursuing L-TACs (links, ties, associations or contacts) in search of a crime, the Obama White House’s national security adviser has now landed as one of the ones who will have to answer for her actions under oath. Washington is as scandal-primed as I’ve ever seen it — there is a lot of smoke right now, but no clear fire. So the noise and finger-pointing will continue. And I have no idea who is winning.

"in search of a crime"

Pigs must be flying; even the WaPo is beginning to get it.

"If that was true, and Trump knew about the surveillance last year, then there is no doubt in my mind that the Trump team was deliberately feeding fake information to the eavesdroppers that completely undermined Hillary Clinton's campaign. This would help explain how Trump was able to pull off such a historic upset, wouldn't it?"

I don't think so. More likely, the left was trying to entrap Trump and his associates.

Think about it ...

Knowing what we know about Donald Trump, do you really believe he would have conducted business as usual if he had been tipped off to the fact that the Obama administration was conducting covert surveillance of his phones, electronic communications, etc.? No way. He would have used this to his advantage, for sure.

Congress has ALL the power in washington, the executive and judicial branch operate according to the whims of CONGRESS!

They do't even read legislation they pass how can you expect them to have read anything about their jobs? As lawyers they demonstrate no knowledge of their own responsibilities and powers. They likely know their position in the pecking order which effects their share of the lobbyists money what else do they need to know.

"Knowing what we know about Donald Trump . . . "

Knowing what I know about Donald Trump, he makes a lot of unforced errors, and I don't give him a lot of credit for being a master strategist. He beat Hillary because she was such a repulsive %#@!%%$&!, not because he was a brilliant campaigner.

He is typical of people I deal with in the real estate business. They are almost all impulsive decision-makers.

On the other hand, he had some seriously high-caliber people working on his campaign. I can't imagine he would have passed up an opportunity to feed B.S. to someone who was spying on him -- even if just for the sake of playing practical jokes on them. In some ways this was the defining episode of his primary campaign:

Donald Trump / "John Miller"

P.S. -- Did you see any Trump campaign appearances in person? I saw a couple myself, and I got a very different impression of his campaign that way.

Congress is allowing it because they have the goods on them.

I recall a stray quote from a Hillary campaign staffer, saying that she was convinced Trump was going into Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania as a head fake to pull her away from other supposed battleground states ... wonder where she got that strange notion, lol?

No, I’ve been here, but mostly I send out weekly summaries to my ping list rather than post. I’ve spoken with Team Trump maybe 3-4 times in the last four weeks. Nothing big.

They are just hard at work staffing the government, Trump is wreaking havoc with Zero’s rules, regulations, & policies-—and he has to do it without full cooperation of the slimeball bureaucracy. But it’s still getting done.

Trump’s tweet was an absolute game changer. It turned the whole “Russia” thing on its head, broke all Dem momentum. I’ve never, ever seen one statement by a president do that. It worked because they couldn’t believe he actually had the evidence, which he does. Now they are forced to deny their own stories, demand more investigation-—which Trump knew would only lead back to Obama.

Let me know if you want on the ping list.

I do want on the ping list, thank you!

Yep, Trump’s tweets are his biggest weapon against everything that’s stacked against him...lots of people still don’t understand that, but to me, it’s pure genius...

I to have noticed he’s quietly working hard and dismantling the garbage that’s been poured on us for the last 8 years...

I’ve also loved the reactions from Dems once they get a glimpse of what the WHouse has on all of this...the pictures speak volumes to the seriousness of what this is...

Best,
TG

she has, at times, flown close to the partisan political flame.

And by saying so, the Post is flying dangerously close to practicing journalism...

I took the “no crime” meaning that Trump/his people who were spied on had committed no crime.
