Police are searching for the suspect of a Saturday night carjacking, in which a man drove off with a womans car while she was filling it with gas at the Circle K Mobil station in Tewksbury.
Surveillance video from the scene shows the woman spraying gas at the carjacker with the fuel hose as he jumps into the drivers seat.

Got a link for that? I'd say it's bogus only because the catalytic converter is the last thing in the exhaust cycle prior to exiting via the muffler.
The worst you will get is a fuel system EVAP pressure error. It will throw a code on modern vehicles if the fuel cap is not replaced and tight enough after fueling, but it won't damage anything. That code will also disappear if you shut the car off, ensure the fuel cap is tight, restart the car and resume driving. The sensor for this is based on pressure (a closed-loop system), and the open/loose cap will throw that pressure off.
