In the movie Field of Dreams, Shoeless Joe Jackson says that Cobb wasn't invited to the ghostly cornfield reunion because, No one liked the son of a bitch.Field of Dreams is easily one of the most over-rated movies of all time.

The first man ever inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Actually, there were FIVE players inducted in the very first HOF ceremony in 1936 -- Cobb, Walter Johnson, Christy Mathewson, Honus Wagner, and Babe Ruth.

On the subject of blacks playing with whites, Cobb said, The Negro should be accepted wholeheartedly and not grudgingly
The Negro has the right to play professional baseball, and who's to say he has not? Cobb attended many Negro league games, sometimes throwing out the first pitch and sitting in the dugout with the players. He said Willie Mays was the only modern-day player he'd pay to see. Yup! Somehow the progressive fruitcake Ken Burns failed to mention this in his Baseball documentary.

if Ken Burns had quit after his Civil War production, he’d be remembered as a genius...but no, and now he’s, well, a progressive fruitcake...
To: Mr. Mojo
Yes indeed. I always thought it very odd that in that documentary, Burns spent 5-10 minutes cheering John McGraws “rough/brawling brand of baseball” - what a tough competitor he was!
-and then spending the next 5-10 minutes denouncing Cobb for the exact same competitiveness.

So this Al Stump is the source of all the BS about Cobb?

If his family was abolitionist in the deep South and he respected blacks and espoused their having equal rights then lo and behold he was a Republican. An endangered, literally, species in late nineteenth and early twentieth century Georgia.

I was poisoned by the smears against Ty Cobb. I had no idea they weren’t true. Sad how easily people can be smeared by charlatans with an agenda. Contemporary liberals are masters of this dark art.
