Mark Meadows says Freedom Caucus will go along with AHCA if it kills community rating and EHB regs

[Full title] MEADOWS: The Obamacare mandates, there are 12 of them. Mark Meadows says Freedom Caucus will go along with AHCA if it kills community rating and EHB regulations

In the debate over repealing and replacing Obamacare, Republican leadership complains that conservatives have been moving the goal post. And Mark Meadows says they're right.

"Well we have," the Freedom Caucus chairman admits with a sigh during a sit-down interview with the Washington Examiner. "We've moved it much closer. All they have to do is kick a little chip shot through the goal posts...."

This comes after weeks of intense negotiation with leadership and the White House on the best way to overhaul Obamacare. But Meadows says his group of three dozen conservatives aren't asking for one thing before demanding another. Instead, he insists that the Freedom Caucus is conceding.

The group has abandoned their demand for a clean repeal. They're not asking Speaker Ryan to clear the slate and start over. Just eliminating the Obamacare mandates for coverage of Essential Health Benefits and the price controls known as "Community Rating," Meadows said "would bring the vast majority of the Freedom Caucus to a yes."

Before it went down in flames, the American Health Care Act only eliminated two of Obamacare's 12 mandates, specifically the individual and employer mandates. If Ryan can kick two more mandates, then he can get the win.

That can't be that hard Meadows said, considering Republicans campaigned on getting rid of Obamacare completely. "In the end," he said, "the request is pretty simple, just two more of the 12 Obamacare mandates."

Cruzbot?? lol!

Are you health care socialists really that dense?

If costs go up in the short term under a R bill, R’s get the blame, D’s take the House in 2018, and the law is moot. We get single payer.

Is that your objective?

Show me any posts where I have expressed support for Bush lackey Cruz for Prez?

Somebody, please explain why Ryan’s group wants community ratings and EHB to remain. What’s so special about these mandates? Why not write them out?

A full repeal would not pass a Senate filibuster. Although the President would sign a full repeal, it will never get to him. It would only be symbolic.

But the President can prosecute democrats of the Obama Administration for tens of billions in mass embezzlement and unauthorized misappropriation of funds directed to Obamacare vote buying and crony payoffs.

And while Sessions prosecutes these crimes, the President can do a lot to help Obamacare collapse on its own.

Any repeal bill should state clearly that the government has no business being involved in the healthcare insurance industry. Of course, most of the Repubs have gone soft, so we won't see the clean return-to-market-forces repeal that's needed.

Of course, if Ryan and Co. were serious about this spurious "three-phase repeal" approach, they could always pass the parts in reverse order. Pass Phase 3 first, with language stating that "this law goes into effect upon passage of Phase 2" -- then do the same thing with Phase 2, stating it goes into effect upon passage of AHCA. But again, that would require a yard of guts that the RINOs don't possess.

Agree with your post, and moreover, the defunding of PP would never survive long term. Time and truth go hand in hand. Most of Congress favors PP funding.

Yep—a superficial and, as you point out, temporary bauble to degrade and nationalize our healthcare system.

It’s a “giveme” that the vast majority of Americans want. They don’t want any American w/o coverage via govt. handout or mandatory requirement on insurance companies. It is what it is.

Clever. Did you strain your brain coming up with that?

Tantrum as you like, doesn’t change the fact that your precious caucus lied to the President’s face and they got called out for it.

Will you apologize when Trump does even more conservative things, or are you just gonna sit there and whine?

Keep trying and you may graduate to “I’m rubber, you’re glue.”

America’s a socialist country now, so the Freedom Caucus will always be a harassed political minority.

When their allies are the Democrats they are not acting as conservatives. We and Trump need to put people in who will act in a positive manner not as obstructionists just because they can’t get their way.

The only relevant point here is that nothing agreeable to the Lovers of Losing would stand a chance in the Senate which essentially means Obamacare stays in place indefinitely becoming more and more difficult to remove.

This should be obvious.

You are either being obtuse or you are a GOPe/Democrat paid shill here.

Calling the few actual conservatives in Congress “Lovers of Losing” only makes sense if you are a liberal.

And if Obamacare 2.0 is passed, then just a slightly tweaked form of Obamacare is still operative—except now owned by the GOP.

Jeesh!

It’s because he did not have a bill. However, that is really Congress’ job, so Trump had to go along with what they had, which wasn’t much.

Straight out of Art of the Deal. Ridiculous. The bill is just a small portion of what was promised. What we got instead is a bill that will have premiums go up and Trump endorsed, endorsed and endorsed. It is his deal as much as anyone, since he will get the credit or blame.
