Trump declares war on Republican conservatives: 'We must fight them'

President Donald Trump declared war on members of his own party on Thursday by threatening the political careers of conservative Republicans who helped torpedo healthcare legislation he backed, but was quickly told the lawmakers will not bow to "bullying."

In a Twitter post, Trump took aim at the Freedom Caucus, a bloc of the most conservative Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives, indicating he would try to defeat them in next year's congressional elections if they continued to defy him.

"The Freedom Caucus will hurt the entire Republican agenda if they don't get on the team, & fast. We must fight them, & Dems, in 2018!" Trump said on Twitter.

Because Trump faces unified opposition by Democratic lawmakers, he cannot afford to lose many Republicans as he tries to get his legislative agenda through Congress, including healthcare, tax cuts and infrastructure spending. But keeping Freedom Caucus members happy without losing the votes of Republican moderates has proven tough.

Health care is NOT the domain of the Federal government.

Dumb. He’s basically saying he can’t work with them already. Look, he promised to repeal and replace Obamacare and is more liberal on this issue than FR. However, despite the fact I don’t believe conservatives will get what they want completely and will have to compromise (because of Trump’s campaign promises about replacing and taking care of everyone), this bill had a terrible approval rating, and new poll showed people hated a lot of it. The Freedom Caucus actually helped Trump on this and not necessarily for the reason they were going for. You want a bill that people understand and support. Ramming it through may have lead to a disaster electorally.

“Does Trump realize that if they defeat the freedom caucus and conservatives stay home...and they lose the house? “

Yeah [THEY] lose it.

Classic stupidity of the right.

Either I get 100% on this or I’ll hand it over to the Democrats....where I will get -100% and they certainly wont care what you think.

Did you people forget the “fun” times of the Obama years or do some of you think that was just a fluke?

>The media isn’t forcing Trump to tweet this stuff. Does Trump realize that if they defeat the freedom caucus and conservatives stay home...and they lose the house? It’s not smart. I had serious reservations about Trump but held out hope he could do what he promised. The problem many of us had is we FORGOT he’s not conservative and never had been and now that he’s not acting conservative we are shocked. That’s our fault.

Trump has delivered on almost everything he has the power to deliver on. Under current conditions he can’t deliver a full repeal of Obamacare because the senate won’t drop the 60 vote rule. Let me remind that Reagan cut deals all the time because he didn’t have the votes in congress to get everything he wanted done. Why are you and others holding Trump to a higher standard than Reagan?

All this opposition will just cause us to lose the midterms and then Trump will have to negotiate with a Dem congress. Do you like the idea of single payer? Because as it stands now single payer would be an better alternative to Obamacare . if the dems retake the house and senate that’s what we’re going to get. Personally I’ll take crappy Ryan care over single pay every day of the week.

I don't remember the AHCA coming up for a vote.

I wish he’d be this angry with Ryan, McCain and Graham. I’m so sick of those three. They do more damage than the freedom caucus for sure.

It’s abundantly clear Kellyanne went on vacation or somehow the two aren’t talking right now.

Maybe you can find a way to define conservatism with some sort of progressive agenda, but no one else can.

Freedom Caucus members helped write the AHCA, and they voted for it in committee.

The term turncoat comes to mind...

You mean when Trump defunds planned parenthood?

When he defunds NPR? Or PBS?

When he rolls back the EPA like nobody ever has?

When he fights 100% against illegal immigration and terrorism?

Yeah, don’t worry. In 4 years we’ll get a real conservative President who will get things done, not some fool who has no idea how to negotiate.

I reluctantly forward this Pastor Chuck Baldwin rant and fully expect to catch unholy hell from fellow Trump supporters (of which I am still one). You will find it at the link at the very bottom.

There are a number of Chuck’s comments with which I take issue — SERIOUS issue (one being Israel v. Zionism) — BUT much of what he writes squares with points I attempted to make in the 7 minute video I produced over 7 years ago here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkyEtw8lBtI

And, of course, there is the MAJOR ISSUE that the dissembling, divisive criminal Hillary Clinton would have been much, much worse.

As is true of ALL elections, 2016 was a choice between two flawed human beings by equally flawed human voters who had grown weary and angry about the country’s slide into the abyss. Trump, who was not just another Beltway insider and had no track record, won the day.
It MAY be too early to know just where Mr. Trump is taking us, but I BEG you to read this piece with an open mind so that you can be alert to further signs that Baldwin MAY be right.

And, of course, there’s the distinct possibility that the world has become so screwed up by the Deep State apparatchiks, intelligence “spooks” and Globalists that NOTHING can be done to right our course. As I reread that, a small tear came forth for my children, grand children and great grand children. Consider cremation as they might dig many of us just to spit in our faces for the mess we left behind!

Now, it’s off to my underground bunker to brace for what I anticipate will be a firestorm of incoming! (Some of it, sadly, from otherwise good folks who declare they detest the current PC goal of shutting down dissenting viewpoints.)

Yep, where have all these “conservatives” in Congress for decades?

The truth is they were no where to be seen.

I think Trump is doing a fine job of executing the laws. As for legislating, that's not his job anyway.

That said, he can take the criticism just fine. IMO, he's pissing on his supporters, as is his right. I think it's an unwise action, but I'm just one person who supported him. He can afford to lose millions of us.

If they were indicted for being conservative, the court would find no evidence and they would get off scott free.

But if they were charged with creating more swamp, conviction would come easily and they would get life in prison.
