Trump declares war on Republican conservatives: 'We must fight them'

President Donald Trump declared war on members of his own party on Thursday by threatening the political careers of conservative Republicans who helped torpedo healthcare legislation he backed, but was quickly told the lawmakers will not bow to "bullying."

In a Twitter post, Trump took aim at the Freedom Caucus, a bloc of the most conservative Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives, indicating he would try to defeat them in next year's congressional elections if they continued to defy him.

"The Freedom Caucus will hurt the entire Republican agenda if they don't get on the team, & fast. We must fight them, & Dems, in 2018!" Trump said on Twitter.

Because Trump faces unified opposition by Democratic lawmakers, he cannot afford to lose many Republicans as he tries to get his legislative agenda through Congress, including healthcare, tax cuts and infrastructure spending. But keeping Freedom Caucus members happy without losing the votes of Republican moderates has proven tough.

So do you think there are only 30 republicans in congress? Do you think 30 people control the republican base?

Are you aware almost half the Freedom Caucus is made up of Never Trumpers? There are some good guys in that Caucus but they have to learn how to be team players. The best quarterback in the world can’t win without a team

“Blah blah blah we are going to lose the House, Senate and Presidency. The Freedom Caucus is great but we have all 3 branches now (including the Court) and if Trump can’t pass an agenda because these 30 members are 100% pure, we WILL lose the government then you can have Hillary. That is political reality. Getting changes is one thing, crashing the agenda and putting Trump to do deals with democrats is simply a crazy over reach.”

It’s almost like these myopic idiots think THIS is the only agenda item there is!

If they cant get 100% then EVERYONE gets 0. They couldn’t care less.

I love Trump. He is just dead wrong on this one. If he coughs up another bad bill that pays for some at the expense of others it will be blocked again!! Remember we have medicaid for the poor who will always be with us. We have medicare for the seniors who paid premiums for 40 years and in fact pay premiums now— so what was this legislation doing? Under what constitutional provision do I have to buy someone else’s insurance premiums. Why do I have to pay more so someone can buy in the day of a dread disease diagnosis? Why is that on me. They need a high risk pool — NOT MY POOL!!
Trump is getting horrible advise! I am pretty sure it is rino rinse penis. We put you in office Trump— you better figure that out pretty quick. You don’t have that many friends?

That’s sort of what bothers me, too. I can’t recall any of these geniouses ever actually crafting a bill and submitting it. From what I can see, all they want to do is oppose changes by others. Paid off by someone, maybe?

PRESIDENT TRUMP needs to revise the ART OF THE DEAL. Politicians don’t follow the same rules as business.

Politicians follow rules???? The only rules they care about are the ones that benefit them the most!

Slow down there.

We shouldn’t be choosing between persons or groups of persons, or between the two political religions known as conservatism and liberalism.

They all need to work this out in private. Trump and all of them need to shut up and work it out.

Headline is misleading. Trump didn`t attack conservatives. He attacked the freedom Caucus. Big difference.

“Again I ask, did “conservatives” in congress ever do anything for conservatism?”

They stopped RinoCare.

I still say Trump is the one with the least amount of politician in him.

Perhaps it would help if he and Ryan were not pushing the other side’s agenda on health care.

Is President Trump against actual conservatives, or is President Trump against actual non-conservatives, from, both, major U.S. political parties as well as from Independent leftists?

Without a doubt, the satanic MSM will take any small dispute and spin it into a GOP Civil War.

this may be part of Trump’s calculations and strategy. He’s certainly been able to manipulate the media until now.

As far as I am concerned, any attack on loyal conservatives is too much. Congress is full of the Uniparty. Why attack a few conservatives?

There seems to a distinct tilt to ‘wrong’ in the past few weeks. There is a Wormtongue in there somewhere. Trump was elected by conservatives and disaffected Democrats, not Beltway turds.

I agree with you on Dave Brat. We were in Virginia during that campaign, and the GOPe definitely did not want Dave Brat! That means that he is probably not compromised the way most “conventionally selected” candidates are. Remember, Dennis Hastert was selected to be Speaker of the House, and everyone knew he was a pedophile.
