I thank any officer or military member or veteran I see...
I remember all too well how we were treated returning from Vietnam....
Welcome home, and thanks.
Welcome Home, brother.
I remember all too well how we were treated returning home from Vietnam

First, thank you for your service.
Second, one of my dad’s good friends served in Vietnam and he got his leg shot up. As he came home, walking through O’Hare, walking with crutches, a bunch of hippies spit on him.
I can only imagine what must have happened to you. I’m so sorry to hear that.
In ‘73 / ‘74 we were treated w contempt in San Diego, the local Sheriff would come in and give us newbies instruction on how to deal with the locals (which included the San Diego PD)
Those days if we left base E-5 and below were in Dress Uniform to leave the Ship, we would have Lockers at the Y to change into Civilian clothes and we were still easy to spot in public. Unlike and contradictory to what most people think, we spent most of our time at the Zoo, the Museum or Gasp ... at Church, where we were welcome and considered normal teenagers.
That was my experience anyway.
My best days off were just picking a Bus Route and ride the Bus the full Circle, get off where I got on and then do another Route same thing, got to see all of San Diego and OB
It was $.35 so I could afford it ;^)
Yeah that was awful. I was young back then and didn’t realize how bad it was. Any Nam guys or any active or retired military I see now, I thank them for their service.
