Russia has developed an unstoppable hypersonic missile capable of destroying the Royal Navys most sophisticated warships, the Sunday People can reveal.
Kremlin military chiefs claim they have built an anti-ship cruise missile capable of travelling at between five and six times the speed of sound - 3,800 mph to 4,600mph.
Now experts fear the missile, called the Zircon, could sink the Royal Navy s two new £6bn state-of-the air aircraft carriers in a single strike.
The missile flies more than twice the speed of a snipers bullet and is almost impossible to stop.
The cruise missile is powered by a scramjet - an air-breathing jet engine that can reach incredible speeds.
A swarm attack involving a dozen missiles against the worlds most modern warships would be devastating, experts believe.
The Zircon missile is believed to have a range of up to 500 miles and can be fitted with a series of warheads from high explosive to nuclear.
It can be fired from land, sea and submarines and could prove to be the most important and deadly weapon of the 21st century.

What about American ships?
We need fricken sharks with lasers attached to counter this!
BFD. More socialist scum slagging Russia for being innovative.
The USA and Russia need to work together and wipe out the filthy, democrat socialist filth polluting our world with welfare soaking scum and islam.
The American ships we removed all the Phalanx CIWS systems from and replaced with missile launchers that can’t actually intercept this threat?
Way late.China has had this for 5 years!1 While we fiddle, our country is wide open to annihilation. CHINA HAS THIS MISSILE!! WHAT ARE WE DOING?
LOL!
A tethered drone 200 yards off a ship with a claymore on it would destroy the million dollar missile for a couple hundred bucks.
Wouldn’t be enough overblast left to give the deck a good dusting.
Unstoppable is just like unsinkable.
What happens to a hyper-missle when it hits severe turbulence say like an explosion’s wave front?
Just use your Super ZOT Laser Ray 2400 traveling at the speed of light and satellite guided. Can track, fire and ZOT 2400 missiles per second from a network of 100 secret sun-powered satellites or optionally from our fleet of nuclear-powered submarines.
Oops, was I not supposed to let that out?
If it smells like a rino, it’s a rino
We had a good run.
I know Raytheon and a few military contractors have been developing land based anti-missile programs. But a lot of the technology has been moved to Israel where they develop them further and more to the point actually use them in defense of the country from Hamas and Hezblah.
I am not sure if these defense systems send rockets at that speed but a defensive system should be able to track the direction of an incoming missile with radar and send an anti-missile rocket to intercept. Israel has the Iron Dome system and is now rolling out David's Sling.
Dang, stop that!!!
CIWS on this thing would just turn it to a big pile of incoming kenetic energy.
Might couple the damage better than a conventional WH.
Hard to get WH fuzed right at that speed, and probably a nearly level impact angle.
Aircraft carriers are for asymmetrical warfare. There are a few countries that might take on The USA, and might take out some aircraft carriers, but they would pay dearly — it would evoke an effective response from The USA — whatever it took — nuclear if need be. Don’t mess with our aircraft carriers.
Come on. What is the range of the missile and what is the launch system? If it is sub launched the solution is to keep enemy subs away from the CVBG. No subs, no missile.
And the Titanic was unsinkable, too.
The real threat is that these supersonic missiles could have election-hacking warheads.

A snipers bullet?
I will admit not to be a expert...but a sniper bullet is normally a FMJ and that’s the biggest difference between a civilian round...
What does speed of the bullet have to do with it?
