AHCA was pulled from the floor yet again this afternoon, and it now is probable that Obamacare will be the law of the land for years to come. This is an utter disaster for U.S. health care, not to mention individual liberty, and the responsibility rests squarely on shoulders of a small cadre of political opportunists with the effrontery to call themselves the House Freedom Caucus.
These people held out for the impossible full repeal of Obamacare in one fell swoop and have thus destroyed the only realistic opportunity their party will have in the near future to eradicate the laws individual and employer mandates, enact entitlement reform, expand HSAs, defund Planned Parenthood, halt the metastasis of Medicaid, and cut its myriad taxes.
Moreover, they have made a mockery of their groups name by perpetuating the increasingly oppressive and powerful administrative state, leaving their constituents to the tender mercies of Beltway bureaucrats whose contempt for the taxpayers who support them is exceeded only by the breathtaking incompetence with which they mismanage everything they touch.

Is that you, Paul Ryan?
No, but is that you Hillary? Your joy at this defeat for President Trump is shared by her and her party.
Lots of Vichy republicans at FR these days. Ryancare was just another corporate bailout.
Sometimes the best thing to do is step back and let socialism run itself into the ground. President Trump can now give o-care a not so gentle shove into the abyss. Just grant waivers for the thinnest of justifications.
Premiums too expensive? Waiver.
Christian? Waiver.
Pagan? Waiver.
Allergic to pollen? Waiver.
Cat has a hairball? Waiver.
Without the mandates in o-care, no one except the sickest will voluntarily sign up, and the insurance companies will run away. We end up with a de facto free market, cash and carry system for health care.
It’s not a “defeat” for Trump it is a HUMILIATING defeat for the GOPe. You know, the incompetent blowhards you worship.
OK
Somebody will have to be blamed for the failure to repeal Obamacare.
How about Trump?
You don’t seem to have a problem with unconstitutional laws and government encroachment in your life.
May your chains set lightly upon you...
All the Freedom Caucus cares about is what K Street cares about- no import tariffs and cheap labor(illegal and legal). That is what freedom means to them.
The author sounded like a NeverTrumper. Thanks for the researçh.
The Ryan bill cut 1.2 trillion in government spending over 10 years according to the CBO. That’s all I needed to know.
The freedom caucus killed spending cuts. They are no better than any socialist democrat as far as I’m concerned. They fought alongside Obama, Hillary and Bernie. Traitors.
Want cheaper health care..?? Then we need to get government completely OUT of health care and doctors OUT of the insurance business....
MHO...
Ok if we are going to keep O’bastard Care for a while why not push for things that reduce health care costs like tort reform? How about medicaid fraud? There are still things that can be done.
“It cant be coincidence that everyone upset this bill failed is using the language of abusers to lash out.”
That is what personality cultist socialists do when you don’t agree with an agenda. They take it as you are trashing their most treasured prize. Conservatives see it as defeating a god awful bill. OTOH cultists see it as a personal slight in the person.
The difference between conservatism and socialist populism.
The Author is 1000% correct and you’re pretending.
Please do share your grievances with the owner of the site about how ignorant we are of true conservatism. Go ahead, we know your true feelings about conservatives. Please call us tea party members tea baggers. We know you’re itching to do it.

Looks like I need to add David Catron’s name to the list of commentators not worth reading.
How is Obamacare saved? Phase Two is still operative. Trump can issue a waiver to EVERY AMERICAN to opt out. The Secretary of HHS can still make broad changes to the bill. Let’s Do this!
This line of thinking is GOPe agitprop. The bill was crap twice over and should never have come up. The FC did us all a great service in opposing it ‘til it had to be pulled. We can tough out OCare for a bit longer while a better, less statist, less crony favoring, more individual freedom oriented design can be brought forward.

this is garbage at best, bad propaganda at worst - the bill went down because it was a bad bill worse that obamacare leaving obamacare leaving most of it’s framework in place and adding some tweaks to try to save it, it never came close to repeal - bleh
That is a kinnard you easily got hood winked into believing. Please show me the amendment that mentions fillibuster. Here I’ll give you a hint...it doesn’t exist. Additionally it only takes 51 not this red herring 60 as you and others espouse. President of the Senate decides what is budgetary and what is not. Also, 90% of the bill can be tied to a budgetary item. Lastly, please do let JR know how ignorant he is. I’m sure he’ll appreciate your candor.
