As Republicans prepare to vote on their health care bill, which does not fully repeal Obamacare, a number of Republicans say its a mistake to put their names to the plan:
Just let Obamacare collapse, then challenge the Democrats to come in and help us fix the mess they created, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) told Fox News Friday morning, as lawmakers debated the latest iteration of the bill on the House floor.
President Trumps going to be judged by the outcome of the legislation, and what I see in the House, I dont think this legislation is going to move the ball in the right direction.

Agree...
But that’s not what he’s suggesting. The Dems have to “come in and help us fix the mess they created”, which is clearly “bipartisan” and a greater push leftwards.
Well, this puts me in a quandry. I wanted them to just let it collapse, but if that’s what he wants, I need to rethink my position.
The dems will double-down on stupid and probably push for single payer.
How do the health insurance companies (not “health care” industries) figure into this?
Health insurance and health care are two distinct entities.
Like compulsory auto insurance, the insurance company doesn’t fix your car in the event of an accident, the collision shop does. All the insurance company does is take your insurance payments, and places a bet that you won’t get in an accident, and if the pool of bettors if sufficiently large, guarantees that the losses will be small if they bet wrong. Oh, and don’t forget that insurance companies invest your polices like an investment bank, or like state farm, converted over to a commercial bank.
ObamaCare will become unafforable long before it collapses
Just let Obamacare collapse, then challenge the Democrats to come in and help us fix the mess they created. He wants to re-empower the Democrats.
“Wont work. The dems will double-down on stupid and probably push for single payer.”
Agree. History has shown the solution is always for government to spend more money and take more control. That is the solution for everything.
Repeal.
Oh, it will collapse all right and take the masses with it. Then, we have Venezuela here. In the meantime, the liberal, leftists will make sure to get almost all of the guns & ammo before that happens in order to keep the people where the people of Venezuela are...between the sword and the wall.
Obamacare “collapses” by all insurers pulling out of the exchanges, and patients rebelling against the insane premiums for unwanted coverage. Many exchanges are down to just 1 insurer, if not 0.
Remove the punitive-tax mandate, so people can legally say “no”.
Remove the ban on interstate commerce in health coverage.
Remove the requirement that coverage include things some don’t want.
Remove the “pre-existing condition” escape clause (make insurers liable for insured conditions, even if patient switches insurers).
If Obamacare continues to limp along, it will be not meaningfully different from Ryancare limping along.
I see your point in all of this however we can’t just keep throwing the kind of money its going to take to keep this afloat down a rat hole. And its only going to get more expensive and restrictive as time goes on. The other issue is this 90 plus percent reimbursement rate for Medicaid that the States are currently receiving for expanding coverage. Who exactly is going to be picking up that tab in short order when the money runs out? No, this has way too many problems and issues to wish away. And let’s face it, no matter what the republicans put out there if it reduces any thing it will be crucified by the democrats and the press so you’re essentially in a no win situation from the start. At the very least they should be adding a work requirement to any one on Medicaid who isn’t disabled and a portion of those earnings should be going directly to pay for coverage.
But if it collapses, we can just make some free market adjustments instead of an entire new program.
it might be a politically sound strategy to let obamacare collapse.. but is that the best thing for americans? thanks lindsey graham, piece of shit politician. we get the government we deserve.
I HATE to say it but he is right on this one.
The bill they are proposing is no better and quite possibly worse than Obamacare.
Obamacare was never fully implemented. If it had been it would have crashed already. Make the Dems fully implement it.
Obama delayed some of the most devastating aspects until after he was gone. But they need to be forced to implement their own plan. This should have been the first thing on the list.
Not if they leave Obamacare to collapse and burn on its own. They have the moral and intellectual high-ground on this one. Obamacare passed without a single Republican vote in the House or Senate.
Democrats own this one lock, stock and stinking barrel.
They can't even blame Republicans for not "fixing" it when it was all theirs to begin with.
Let it burn.
That’s a false dilemma he is positing, though. His notion to “let Obamacare collapse, then challenge the Democrats to come in and help us fix the mess they created” is not the real and viable alternative to Rynocare.
You have given two hypotheticals, the latter larger than the first.
Here in NY, for example, semi-government controlled crony-capitalist insurers, will simply work with the progressive/Left State government to raise rates, and reduce services. As for patients "rebelling" -- again, here in NY, they probably have signed up nearly as many people for Medicaid and subsidies as there are people getting screwed by higher costs. Fed.gov will continue to pay their share for this.
The screws will be applied slowly and steadily. The frog will be boiled slowly - but there will absolutely be NO "collapse."
But Graham said he wants to “challenge the Democrats to come in and help us fix the mess they created”, i.e. have the Dems come in and stop it from burning down.
Perhaps. Cycles change over time and they may get their wish in the near future. There are probably lots of RINOs that might go along.
