Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump and House Republicans are still scrambling to reach a deal on legislation to repeal and replace Obamacare ahead of what is expected to be a dramatic vote Thursday.
House Speaker Paul Ryan held a long meeting Wednesday night in his office with moderate Republicans. Cameras from networks were set up for possible reactions and readouts, but it was clear leadership had no good news to share. With the exception of a few members who rushed away without speaking to press, all leaders, including Ryan, ducked out using side exits.

Rand Paul’s plan seems much better. It’s more fiscally sane.
You’re right. Rand is very good with fiscal issues.
If it’s on the WH website, why is he pushing RINOcare? It doesn’t add up.
RyanCare essentially is ObamaCare with conservative window dressing.
I concur. Never saw so many “conservatives” that won’t throw their hats in the ring and at least force their peers to put up or shut up. Hopefully The President is holding feet to the fire while making congress stand up and be counted.
Pragmatism says pass legislation that moves in the right direction, tweak it further in reconciliation, get the president something he can proudly sign!
Next use the bill to drive changes to the tax code to force health care into the marketplace of the fifty states, no more one size fits all, by using the house’s power of the purse.
Mitch could further fix this by changing the senate filibuster rules to bring back the “Mr Smith goes to Washington” filibuster rule. No “Nuclear” option, simply force senate members to show their true colors and defend their positions in front of God and all Americans in plain site in the light of day.
If Freedom Caucus is good with it then it is probably pretty good. It is next to impossible to put together a broken glass.
this is good news , the Republican extortionists need to go back to the drawing board and come up with something more deceptive to make us little peons believe they actually represent us and not big pharma and the “insurance” racket
its no where near “Repeal and Replace”, Its merely “Polishing a Turd”.
“Where is their plan? Oh that is right. They dont have one.
Au contrare Nappy! The Conservative Plan was simply to repeal Obamacare, because that was what THEY PROMISED their constituents. This festering turd being served up by Ryan is the lead weight by which he planned to sink Trump so he could run for President.
Balderdash!
We have Ted Cruz and Rand Paul in the Senate, among others, who have said that Ryan-care as originally constituted won't pass that chamber.
We also have the steadfast House Freedom Caucus, which has been getting concessions and improvements that might very well dispel their reservations. Indeed, we're now reading that it's the RINO's who are beginning to complain in some instances.
Without those patriotic elements who are negotiating for the best provisions, this legislation will never pass.
In any event, there's no reason to think that the House Freedom Caucus will suddenly repudiate the improvements they've achieved, and instead vote for an inferior version of this bill which they already said they'd vote "no" on.
Let's remember that the naysayers were initially insisting that this bill would have to be considered "as is", with no changes—a canard that has clearly been disproven.
Yawn. Underestimating President Trump again. What else is new?
They don’t care. because trump seems to be willing to sign the crap they came up with.
I hope that is not the case.
see 34..
he has a point. this crap won’t die..
Consider... this is CNN.
word to trump Ryan is a lyin
I am sure VP Pence is working the back rooms.
It would be nice to see a congress that acts statesmanlike again in my lifetime!>>>> i don’t think pence did his job here. he is the legislative person in trump’s cabinet.
I mean, the main thing he talked about on the campaign trail was buying insurance across state lines, which is not in this bill. >>> the state line thing is like the gun show loop hole. doesn’t exist. multi state insurers work within each states guidelines to produce plans based on each states requirements. and produce pricing based on those requirements. To allow someone to purchase a new jersey plan regulated in texas would disallow all of the new jersey requirements for that person. they would have no standing for being held harmless in the state they reside. thus making health insurance federal. The only problem with hospital payments is that there are people that were not insured that some one felt needed to be covered in the e-rooms at a hospital. The last human charity that hospitals couldn’t quantify (especially with influx of illegals) and couldn’t control the costs.
I was shocked to see that my rep is on the list of those opposing the bill. I will be watching closely to see how he actually votes.
Pretty much. Government entitlements never go away...ever. The Dems have made a living off of this. Get rid of the mandate, enable purchase across state lines, make it impossible for non citizens to participate, and I’d be somewhat happy. The problem is that this is just an entitlement like any other. As such, it needs to be fueled by wealth distribution. It’s a major step in the socialist agenda, and it’s never going away.
They had a good plan in 2015. Ryan doesn’t want to use that one; Conservatives would back it, and Trump would sign it. But it doesn’t have any goodies for special interest groups, so Lyin Ryan’s not interested in it now. They only brought it up in 2015, because they knew it wouldn’t pass. It was for show.
They aren't going to do the same things the Democrats did.
The fact, you can't pass a major piece of legislature with just one Party.
Repeal Obamacare and then put in free market solutions in pieces.
