This is covered. As Trump himself pointed out, “wire tapped” was in quotes in his original tweet - not meant to be taken literally, but as a general euphemism for surveillance.
If the surveillance was electronic then the information travelled by wires and that falls under wiretapping.

You are ssssooooo right, as an involved, loving parent I “monitor” what my teenagers do on their cell phones...But I have never “wire tapped” them.
And President Obama wasn't lurching around Trump tower with a flashlight and a ski mask doing the "wiretapping" himself, so Trump is still a liar. < /s>
Note how the media PARSES this. Trump needs to prove according to them, that 1. Trump Tower was wiretapped, 2 That it was DJT personally who was tapped & 3. that Obama (personally) did the tapping.
For POTUS to be not guilty of a lie and a baseless charge, he must prove all three above. Otherwise he will be branded as a liar now and forever a million times over in the MSM, Hollywood and academia.
