Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) told Breitbart News exclusively on Tuesday afternoon that he expects House Speaker Paul Ryan will be forced to pull the American Health Care Act (AHCA) before a scheduled Thursday vote because Ryan will not get the votes to pass the legislation. The AHCA has been dubbed Obamacare Lite by Paul a leading conservative critic of the plan and by other conservatives as RyanCare, RINO-Care, and Obamacare 2.0, since the bill does not actually fully repeal Obamacare and keeps many of the main structures that the now-former President Barack Obama installed in the healthcare system. It has come under intense scrutiny from both sides of the Republican Party moderates and conservatives are lining up against the bill and Ryan, despite publicly projecting confidence, cannot find the necessary 216 votes to pass the legislation.
Paul, one of the leading senators out of more than a dozen Republicans in the upper chamber criticizing the bill there, told Breitbart News in this exclusive interview he believes there are at least 35 House Republicans ready to vote against the bill in its current form. And he predicted that, unless some major changes come to the legislation between now and the scheduled vote on Thursday, Ryan will need to withdraw the bill and Republicans will have to start from scratch with a new bill and a new strategy on Obamacare.
Paul said in the in-person interview at his U.S. Senate office in the Russell Senate Office Building:

I know. And the biggest complaint about the Ryan bill is that it isn’t going to reduce those premiums at all.
“What is it you dont understand about 60 votes.”
I thought that Obamacare, as it exists now, was created through reconciliation without the required 60 votes (because Kennedy died, leaving the Dems 59 votes).
Is there some reason Republicans can not repeal it the same way?
Passed with 56 but who is counting. Not sure why some people think repealing this would take 60. Replacing “it” at the same time just brings contention within the Party.
If this bill did pass, it would be the end of the Republican Party. There will simply be no reason for it to exist.
The HOUSE passed the previously passed Senate bill, and using the reconciliation process adjusted some of the numbers on taxes and subsidies.
The bill was legally passed as statute.
>>>Ryans bill doesnt allow for sale of insurance across state lines, for one thing.
Help me understand how this works. I live in Alabama. If an insurer in say Nevada has a cheaper plan, but all of the in network doctors amd hospitals are in Nevada, how does this help me?
When OCare is repealed and the free market approach is established States can set up what saftey nets their populations want to support.
The Gv’t will still be on the hook for Medicare. That is where Trump’s deal making and privatization plans could really pay off in getting more for less $. Medicaid should be spun off to the States. That would introduce some fiscal discipline into the system & save a great deal of $ of bureaucratic overhead. The closer the payment is to the user the more the incentive to use the system wisely and to get value for $.
I don’t know why we don’t bill other countries for giving health care to their citizens.
“I thought that Obamacare, as it exists now, was created through reconciliation without the required 60 votes”
That is misinformation. You should start distrusting the source that informed you of that.
The bill passed the Senate 60-39, and the House decided to pass the Senate bill and use their reconciliation process to adjust the taxes and subsidies.
Otherwise it would not be law. And it is.
Look it up on Wiki.
Interesting, thanks for the link.
I am curious about the Paul-type people who are complaining about the regulatory framework staying in place. Doesn’t that leave us open for the next Obama to just make this into whatever he wants it to be with simple majority votes?
I would say there's a 100% chance of that. Obamacare helped them win elections--a lot of elections. Why give that up?
It was done by getting other bills through with 60 and replacing relevant budgetary text, approved by the Parliamentarian.
You have to go back and read the exact sequence and method. Mostly the problem was Kennedy died and a GOP guy won that seat. That left them with 59. They then contorted the bills they had passed into budgetary issues so that the Parliamentarian would accept it.
Ryan would love to remove all text about individual mandate. He can, but it would die in the Senate because it won’t have 60. What he CAN do is reduce the fine to 0. And he has.
Did the rats have 60 seats back then? I seem to remember that not even one republican voted for it in either chamber.
He has just passed the fine to the insurance companies to collect if you try and get insurance after your insurance lapses for 2 months or more, rather than the IRS and its a bigger fine.
Amend the bill get the crap out and good stuff in then let Chuckie Schumer cry and cause chaos and destroy the Senate Democrats.
God this so frickn dumb - this is not what I voted for
let’s roll patriots. let’s hammer them on the phones.
Kill the bill!
When did REPEAL OBAMACARE become “repeal and REPLACE”? I’m SICK of hearing this “repeal and replace” CRAP! Sean Hannity is one of the worst, repeatedly parroting that nonsense on his radio show, and now, even Rush is saying that like it’s what the American people want! We DON’T!
The individual mandate is STILL IN PLACE in this new abomination legislation! STOP IT! Repeal it! DON’T REPLACE IT!
The individual mandate is STILL IN PLACE in this new abomination legislation! STOP IT! Repeal it! DONT REPLACE IT!
Right you are!!! They’ve (not) cleverly disguised it, but it is there.
As is the Cadillac tax :(
