"I wonder if it would work on dandelions without killing the grass or nearby plants."

I love dandelions! Makes great wine and jelly! Pick the flower and drink daily as a tea and it cleanses the system as well as the young leaves. I always look forward to dandelion season.

One simple way to get rid of dandelions is to not mow the lawn during their season. It prevents seeds from resowing. Dandelions open only when there is sunlight. The tall grass will prevent them from opening because it would block sunlight.

As for the existing plants, pull up by the root (roast root for coffee)then pour your killing solution where the root was to soak the root sections left in the ground.

Remember the book “Dandelion Wine” by Ray Bradbury.

— Dandelion wine is presented as a metaphor of summer here, bottled for the winter season of illnesses and wheezing. In Douglas’ words: “Dandelion wine. The words were summer on the tongue. The wine was summer caught and stoppered.”

Can’t help but think of this when I see dandelions.

Thanks for the tips. I bought one of those Grandpa diggers (or whatever it’s called) that was supposed to make it easy to dig things up by their roots. It was still hard work and I still get dandelions all over the grass (sigh).
