WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Trump administration wants to build a 30-foot-high border wall that looks good from the north side and is difficult to climb or cut through, according to a pair of contract notices posted to a government website further detailing President Donald Trump's promise to build a "big, beautiful wall" at the Mexican border.
The notices were made public late Friday by Customs and Border Protection, the Homeland Security Department agency that will oversee the project and eventually patrol and maintain the wall. The proposals are due to the government by March 29.
One of the CBP contract requests calls for a solid concrete wall, while the other asks for proposals for a see-through structure. Both require the wall to sunk at least six feet into the ground and include 25- and 50-foot automated gates for pedestrians and vehicles. The proposed wall must also be built in a such a way that it would take at least an hour to cut through it with a "sledgehammer, car jack, pick axe, chisel, battery operated impact tools, battery operated cutting tools, Oxy/acetylene torch or other similar hand-held tools."
The government will award a contract based on 30-foot-wide sample walls that are to be built in San Diego.

Sounds lovely!
illegals cost thsi country between $400 BILLION DOLLARS and $600 BILLION DOLLARS —EVERY single Year!—
The wall will cost a one time fee of perhaps $30 BILLION DOLLARS on the high end- (plus have a small fee each year to maintain- comparatively speaking)
No brainer- let’s save hundreds of billions of dollars EVERY single year by investing a very small amount of money now to build an effective barrier against the scourge of illegal immigration
For the most part, that is correct. But undoing the RATs' handiwork cannot be done by any other means.
We need both to stop the flow of drugs and people. Plus all property with half mile of the border needs to be open for inspection by border patrol without a warrant to prevent tunneling.
Build the wall 1/3 of the way across the Rio Grande, parallel to the banks.
Difficult to set ladders, dig under, wildlife still has a source of water.
That would cover about 1000 miles of the border.
“moat, alligators, etc. blah blah” That’s some 2006 lame stuff.
A rampart walkway on top, listening posts every thousand or so feet with actual line of sight, barracks every few miles. AND,
gun ranges, mess halls, entertainment for the agents: weight rooms, big screen TVs, as well as raises, incentive pay & bonuses for the BP. Border Patrol agents have been abused long enough.
It’s a shame we need a DMZ but `Cousin Eduardo’ and his govt. to the south have made it necessary. With bad neighbors sometimes the only way to keep them out of your backyard is with a stockade fence.
The Secure Fence act of 2006 was a joke, but it gave us the law so the joke’s on the Open Borders crowd who thought it would serve as a sop to get amnesty.
Trump’s wall used to be just 20 feet high, but then Vincente Fox shot his mouth off.
Needs to include a wide mine field.
Your Visa has expired. Blam.
It needs to be at least 100 feet high and 100 feet underground, wide enough to drive vehicles on. Put a secondary wall behind it with a 50 yard no-man's land of concertina tape between them.
I would put it down about 20 or 30 feet. Six feet can be easily tunneled under.
I think alligators would adapt easily to the Rio Grand basin.
For comparison, the Israeli West Bank wall is 8 meters or 26 ft at the tallest.
Make that concertina RAZOR WIRE.
Thats just to make it good.
Fox featured a company who has a design for a “smart wall.” It will be impenetrable and have underground fiber columns set underneath the wall. The columns will hold vibration detectors to pick up underground digging and any activities above ground. The spokesman for this wall concept said that Area 51 has technology that detects a mouse in the area for a mile around the complex. This technology will be available on the wall.
Darned few of them will be headed south, though, unless it's to the little numbered-account islands.
Democrats are already giving Mexicans plans for 31 foot ladders.
Autonomous armed drones might be a good deterrent too.
