The Justice Department is preparing to send immigration judges to 12 cities around the country to expedite the deportation process for undocumented immigrants charged with crimes, Reuters reported on Friday.
The judges will be temporarily reassigned to Baltimore; Los Angeles; Miami; New Orleans; New York; San Francisco; Bloomington, Minn.; El Paso, Texas; Harlingen, Texas; Imperial, Calif.; Omaha, Neb. and Phoenix, Ariz.
Those cities have more than half of the country’s pending cases in which undocumented immigrants are facing criminal charges, Reuters reported.
The number of judges that would be reassigned and the timeline are still being reviewed, according to Reuters. The move was requested by the Department of Homeland Security. As a candidate, President Trump vowed to ramp up efforts to deport undocumented immigrants, particularly those involved in crime.
The president signed an executive order in January, days after taking office, cracking down on undocumented immigration and ramping up border security efforts. Trump has also authorized the construction of a massive wall along the country’s southern border.
The Trump administration is also temporarily increasing the number of immigration judges at detention centers near the U.S.-Mexico border.

Calling illegal aliens “undocumented immigrants” is unfair to the many legal immigrants who enter the country every year.

I figured long ago that Trump would do something like this. Maybe Trump could line up and hire magistrates to also speed up the process.

I have had a pending application in a support position with ICE since early January.
Just today it was updated as: “Referred to hiring official”.
This is great news. Clear the docket; deport, deport, deport.
That’s a good idea. Taking all their stuff will encourage others to get out while they can take their stuff with them.
Declaring all illegals to be federal fugitives with a bounty on their heads would be another good step. Post a website with mug shots, names and descriptions of every illegal who has ever been arrested for anything but wasn’t confirmed deported. Issue an arrest warrant just based on their past known illegal presence. Having a million re-Deputized retired but fit, armed LEOs looking for a $5000 bounty should scare them out of the country.
This article doesn’t say the numbers of judges, but to really make a dent in the backlog and streamline the deportation process, the DOJ should offer big bonuses to retired tough, no-nonsense judges to come back for a year to clear it out. Liberal judges need not apply.
It is ridiculous for there to be any sort of delay or continuances in these proceedings. It should be a quick hearing to review documentation of identity and legal status, decide whether it is worth trying them here for other crimes, or just deport them immediately. Each judge should be able to process a dozen a day at least. 1000 judges equals 3 million deported per year at that rate.
Yep. I hope they are talking about thousands of judges and of just a few. Keep every hearing room in every federal building running 24/7 with shifts of judges.
